And collected from local taxpayers for the needs of Dover district
Councils can introduce drinking restrictions in defined areas , this does not affect licensed premises or organized events

I cant find the current link on the Home office website but this is a good start , sorry if it is slightly outdated

You pay DDC but it is passed directly to the Kent Police Authority. It is neither DCC or KCC who set the Police budget . It is the Kent Police Authority who are responsible for the Police service & how much they charge.
In future from Novermber it will be the Kent Police Commissioner who you will have to vote for[or not].

I am looking forward to that Paul , any thoughts on the alcohol restriction areas ?

Some of what has been described here are offences (urinating in public, dropping litter) and those responsible should be dealt with in the same way that the rest of us would be dealt with if caught, not told it's your lifestyle choice mate so that's OK.
The rest of it could be described as anti-social behaviour and DDC have a remit there -

I have now sent this to the Police, the CSU at DDC and Councillor Nigel Collor.
I cannot believe that we don't have a ZERO tolerance on this and many other "minor" offences.
Get them out of the public eye - "life-style choices" be buggered; it's not acceptable behaviour.
Roger
My lifestyle dictates that I am able to walk through my town without watching guys weeing in doorways or falling sideways on a bench through drink, and my daughters don't have to hear a ton of verbal atrocity when they are walking to work or the shop, or even to school. It also dictates that I don't have to walk through a ton of fag smoke when going past shops where the workers are fagging it outside, don't have to tread through fag butts and dog poo, and don't have to avoid eye contact with anyone for fear of verbal abuse or harrassment. Which, incidentally, I don't fear, it just annoys me.

bern, the only reason you have to put up with other peoples smoking habits is because those smokers cant smoke inside the work place any more, see previous goverments records for that.

Brian - do we HAVE to put up with cigarette smoke in our faces, whether in buildings or outside ??
People smoking in bus queues or other places, in close proximity to other people surely isn't acceptable ??

You are right Kath it is not acceptable anymore, totally unacceptable in fact, I do not want to walk through clouds of smoke to enter or exit a building, why should I?

there are lots of things we don't like personally but if it is within the law then so be it.
this thread is about law breaking that is blatantly accepted by the authorities.

true kath, but one has to endure these things so to speak, unless the goverment pass's a law banning smoking across the board,ie,no smoking in the streets, bus stops and shop door ways etc.in which would bring total uproar, this would then become a dictatership.you could allso add drinking and eating as well.
New York has just such a law re smoking in doorways to prevent non smokers having to walk through smoke just to enter or leave work or shops . I believe that it is illegal to smoke within 15 ft of an entry or exit point of a shop restaurant or workplace . I would support such a law here . It wouldnt stop smokers from smoking

very true sarah, well to the most determind ones any way.
Indeed, and I don't think we want to stop people smoking. I don't care enough to do that. I do, however, care enough about not traipsing through smoke. Not being allowed to smoke in public buildings or at work does not automatically make it ok to force the rest of us to inhale your smoke to get through the damned door.

works both ways bern, having a desinated area for smoking is a better idea.morrisons have a desinated place for smokers well away from the shops entrace and has a roof and 3 sides, handy if its raining.
