  Controls to restrict how Bulgarian and Romanian nationals access the UK labour market will be extended until the end of 2013, Immigration Minister Damian Green announced today.
  
  This means Romanian and Bulgarian (EU2) nationals seeking to work in the UK will continue to require permission from the UK Border Agency before they can work in the UK.
  
  The minister said:
  
  'Maintaining these controls will make sure migration benefits the UK and does not adversely impact on our labour market. The government is radically reforming the immigration system, and has already announced an annual limit on work visas and tough new rules for students to ensure net migration is reduced from the hundreds of thousands to the tens of thousands.
  
  'The Migration Advisory Committee has made a clear case for extending the existing restrictions on Bulgarians and Romanians. This government has also made clear that we will always introduce transitional controls on all new EU member states as a matter of course.'"

  What Ministers say and what actually happens are two totally different things.
  
  This will be suicidal for Britain (and Dover) if they are ever allowed to come in, let alone in 2013.
  
  Much of our housing shortage, the problems with the NHS and the Benefit System are due to uncontrolled immigration; there should be - no, must be, stricter controls and criteria: a job waiting, speaking English and somewhere to live.
  
  Paying taxes is an integral part of allowing any immigration, otherwise it's take all and no give.

  Well Keith, Labour government had years and years to change things so maybe better not go down that route.
  
  EU has said we have to allow every scrounger in Europe into the country that is the problem and we can do nothing to stop them, at least that is how I see it.

  Quite right Jan, no sign of joined-up thinking. Just a drive to to lower wages at the bottom end.
  
  Would anybody from Eastern Europe reading the Daily Mail be discouraged from coming here or just the opposite?

  This really is a case of 'we're all in it together'. Tories were responsible for our EU entry and for our signing the Maastricht treaty. Treaty of Amsterdam was negotiated by Tories and signed by Labour. Treaties of Nice and Lisbon were Labour's fault.
  
  Each of these acts represented the transfer of some of the UK's sovereignty to foreign agencies, by politicians, whereas sovereignty by definition belongs to the head of state for the time being and is not at the disposal of politicians to do with as they wish. I believe therefore that those acts were treasonable and the politicians responsible should swing for it.
  
  For your further information, while Romanians and Bulgarians can't yet be employed here, they have had the right to be self-employed since the day their countries first acceded to the EU. Many of them are.

  Maastrict and those that followed were certainly treaties too far. Once of my regrets politically was in supporting and campaigning to stay in the EEC in the referendum we had in the 70's.

  Loopholes allowed 50,000 east Europeans to get jobs they should have been restricted from by declaring themselves "self-employed."
  
  These included hotel and restaurant workers, sales staff, tax-drivers and lap-dancers - with many thousands of such jobs being advertised in the two countries.
  
  So much for a country taking in "every scrounger in Europe"
  
  What would you gentlemen do without your lap-dancers? and I do declare a Bulgarian has taken on, what used to be this forums' favourite watering hole...Blakes
  
  It is all not so black and white, or is the argument. us and foreigners. What and if, you bought back hanging, would have got do with it, someone would have to explain this properly to me.
  
  Also, please explain how and why most of the so called "scroungers" have most of the commerce and retail in this country.
  
  There is not one country on this planet that, economically, can do without the importation of cheap foreign labour/ you could try the pure race route/nationalism etc. Has been tried before remember

  We're not talking about entrepreneurs, we're talking about scroungers and Romany Gypsies in particular.

  I wish there was a country out there somewhere which provided even better benefits for scroungers than the UK. Then we would be left in peace, for our welfare systems to look after the genuinely needy, and not other nations' rejects. Dangerous to single out Romanies, Roger.

  Actually, I like the Aussie system, for me it is fair and square.
  
  You have to have a certain amount in a bank account, which is checked. A sponser for the type of work you can offer.
  They handle many ethinic peoples, but it is for the good of the country.
  
  I am not happy at all, regarding Mrs Merkle, and her strident attitudes regarding the EU. It is not party politics, to blame, which member on here like to bring up.
  
  We are completely spinless when it come to the EU immigration situation. If we, as part of the EU went to either
  Bulgaria, which has only 7 million people, and is a calm country. However, Romania is a different kettle of fish. back to my point, if we went to these countries, we would get bu........er all. So it is not a level playing field at all.
  
  Obviously, we, as a nation, were made to feel very guilty regarding our colonial past. Politicians are very clever at this, hence the huge number of ethnic nations who came in, and have integrated and settled. Everyone does, eventually.
  
  At the present time,it is a cheap labour policy, on both sides of the political spectrum. Frankly, they do not give a fish, who or what the job market is. So long as the Footsie 100 keeps bouyant. Meanwhile, Folkestone Road, and its ilk will stretch at the seams!! You will not find the new additions in St. Margarets etc
