George Osborne is all for making savings in 'your' neck of the woods, but he can still find £137 million to divert a busy roadway in his own Constituency.
While this is set to please the denizens of the village of Mere in Cheshire [no. 38 in the Telegraph's list of richest villages] those in neighbouring villages are less pleased by the proposed shifting of the A556 through green-belt land.
In 2003 the then Transport Minister, a Mr. A Darling, rejected the plan as too environmentally damaging. [work is set to begin in 2015]
Speak up now!
What could Charming Charlie do to seal his re-election?

I was in the Town shopping for a few hours on Saturday and it was very very busy, even had to queue at the tills in most shops

Always nice to bump into familiar faces too, like the lovely SarahP
I just wish that organisations were more communicative with the people and kept a higher profile. Why is it all so secret, for example, I only heard about DTT by chance when one of our team here at Doverforum came upon them doing something important in the town recently and we are a topical instant media site in the town! Howard refers to something similar in #32 'Secret societies that just send out statements' We need more transparency from our organisations.
Also, as Bern says in #33 'Mavericks and the fearless are essential to a town's development' this is so true and Roger you are one

Thank You Colette.
I also think you are right on the lack of openness from some quarters.
Roger

I doubt there's a lack of co-ordination between them Keith, it's what they tell the outside world - maybe there's nothing to tell until the big announcement is made by the Government.
There's lots of internal planning to do though, whether they get the money or not, as they have said from the outset, that even if they do not get a share of it, they want to carry on.
Inclusion, not exclusion, should be the name of the game.

roger;
i dont dispute any of your post, apart from to say there also needs to be some co ordination between bodies, so each knows what the other is doing.
avoids duplication.
also tends to help things to work

And that is the responsibility of all the organisations and all the individuals in them.
