The Awful Neglect of Connaught Park
- 23 March 2013 17:18221893Further Good News on our Connaught Park project, C PAG has received another very kind donation of £50.00 which the late Mr John Turnpenny's niece, Katie Lloyd-Nunn presented to me at the latest Castle Forum meeting, where Lorraine Sencicle gave a very interesting talk complete with slide show of Mr Turnpenny's life in Dover, I feel privileged to have known him. Katie travelled all the way to Dover from Stroud in Gloucestershire especially for this presentation by Lorraine on her uncle John's life. It was also the anniversary of John's birthday, 21st March.
With this latest donation, the DTC Grant and the other kind donation of £200 from a Dover businessman, our working budget is now £500.00
Time for painting the benches and planting is fast approaching, where did the last two months go?
Also more volunteers have come forward
We will start work at Connaught Park week beginning the 8th April, weather permitting, so it will be all hands to the brushes and trowels

- 2 April 2013 02:12223170There was a Dover Golf Club in existence from 1890 to 1948. The course was across Broadlees Farm but there seems from the photo to have been a tee at the top end of Connaught Park.

Watty, when I started C PAG, under the umbrella of Castle Forum, I became aware of the 'Friends of Connaught Park'. Out of courtesy, I did try to make contact but to no avail.

The contractors arrived on site early one morning & discovered this with another load all rolled up presumably waiting for the thieve's return to cart off some more. Shocking state of affairs, why on earth do people do this sort of thing. Beggars belief 
I am meeting with DDC early next week to devise a programme of works. They are very kindly supplying us with some materials to start work on the benches Then, said benches will be unbolted & we will be good to go. So we are getting nearer to start date. Will let you all know when all is finally in order
