Whilst I'm all for a laugh, If you witnessed the elderly having to clear up after the dustcart has gone you wouldn't laugh so much.
As this street hasn't had a road sweeper since 1999 could I ask DDC when it is our turn??? lol

You might not get a road sweeper Keith but the one that goes down my road comes before

the binmen and is virtually useless because of all the parked cars. DDC save money and send us a man with a broom occasionally after the bin men so that will mean in the afternoon.

You took the words out of my mouth, Keith. Not a week goes by when myself and neighbours don't end up having to sweep and clean up after our refuse collection. Not talking about spry 30 somethings either. No wonder we are all living longer, what with having to lift and drag heavy bins and boxes and bending and squatting to clean up, with a fitness regime like that, it could add years to our expected life span then what would happen to the Benefit system.

Well done Vic, I am sure you can give them enough detail to locate the individual involved and give him suitable advice, not acceptable to litter the streets for ease of his job.

jan;
surely this road has as much right to a regular road sweeper than any other part of the District doesn't it??
maybe a change in working practices required

my understanding is that the contract with ddc stipulates removal of rubbish in bins and bags only, not loose spilled out stuff.

As I said it came off the back of their own lorry because he did not close the cage door.

What if the bin men 'drop' the rubbish whilst emptying and fail to retrieve it? Is that construed as littering or spillage?

i haven't seen any of the bins losing rubbish so cannot comment but with bags properly secured by the resident then it is not possible for rubbish to spill out.

Well, apart from seagulls, and I frequently double even triple bag and spray, the black boxes for plastics and tins etc. are frequently banged into the cart dropping items in the process. Rarely retrieved. Jan had it right, bring back the road sweepers with their brooms.

Way ahead of you brian,
Already even on here and Roger replied stated on the non appearance of road sweepers,
It appears road sweepers are sent to places in most need (in the councils eyes) so under the present system my road will NEVER get a road sweeper, where as the town and other areas a sweeper all day.
,
All i'm asking is for a share of the road sweeper
Once a week even

You are asking for the impossible with that request Keith, the useless vehicle we get is only once in a while.

Jan,
But why????? we all pay to much council tax, and should we not at least get a service???
I'm not even asking for the same(daily road sweeper like in lots of areas) but a weekly one
that would be better than at present not one since 1999

And how do they sweep under the wall-to-wall parked cars? In many countries they restrict parking one day a week in residential streets- generally one side only on an alternating weekly rota- to leave it clear for the sweeper truck. If they can manage it in L.A. I'm sure Dover could do it.
