I was wakened this morning at 05.17 by the sound of many gulls squawking. Looking out of the window I saw a very Hitchcockian scene. Hundreds of gulls where swarming and diving over London Road. Taking the dog out a bit later I saw why.
..............and it's not even collection day!

I think the district council might have a word with the owner of the takeaway about his waste arrangements. As a business he has to have a commercial arrangement as the usual weekly domestic collection doesn't pick up trade waste. Obviously with his frontage he can't have a wheelie bin so he will have to use bags. The trade waste collections tend to be very early in the morning so you have to put the waste out the night before. At Blakes we used to have similar problems with gulls but we solved it by sprinkling the bags with white pepper. Gulls hate it. But you have to be quick- once I was loading bags of waste into the car for a tip run. I put in two bags then went inside for two more. By the time I got outside again, two gulls had torn one of the bags open and were sharing the spoils in the back of the car.

Yeah, well. Obviously the contractors have taken the bags but no attempt at clearing the pavement! I daresay we'll have to wait until the Chinese surface at midday.

Great set of pictures there Terry..of an unfortunate subject matter.
But hopefully by highlighting it something may be done to limit it happening again.

white pepper gets mentioned, when we had the bag collection in my road many of the older residents put a bleach covered towel over them - worked well.

Update.
07.27 - Veolia take away the bags. Leave the path as you have seen.
09.15 - Stuart from "Best Deals" next door sweeps the path.
Well done Stu!

Interesting thing is that among the bags were several flattened cardboard boxes. Might have been more secure containers!

Why not second hand Milk Floats, suitably altered to accommodate one wheel-less wheelie-bin, to pick-up around the 'restaurant district' in the small hours?

A final update, the proprietors spent some time this afternoon scrubbing the pavement.
