Eurotunnel are an absolute disgrace of a company imo.
This is pretty much all down to them cancelling UK daytrip tickets since Friday isn't it?
Always at this time of year, they seem to sell more tickets than they actually have the carrying capacity for (on both sides, breakdowns or not).
Turn Up and Go they advertise. Turn Up and Join The Massive Tailback Or Try Your Luck At Dover more like.
If they'd kept up with/spent on maintenance, maybe they wouldn't break down so much? Just a thought.
If your air-conditioning breaks down when it's hot, it is crap air-conditioning by default (or you've let the maintenance slide).
To be honest, I was surprised to hear they actually have air-conditioning. Every day during the summer is like a sweat box sauna travelling with them and has been for at least the last half a decade.
I would love to rant on, but workplace social media guidelines and all that .
Edit: Obviously also down to the previously mentioned Charlton Green/Maison Dieu pipework going on.

Apologies Chris but it is fun to tease Sue now and again.
Back to traffic, if only they would stop the lorries from trying to escape the port hold-ups the town would not get gridlocked.

TWD - I can shed some light on this if anyone is remotely interested in the role of our beloved Tunnel.
ET took the decision over 15 years ago now that re-investment in the tourist shuttles was not a good idea. The constraints of the original design and tunnel safety specifications meant that the tourist shuttles were like "Boeing 747s on wheels", to quote a then board member. Additionally, millions had just been invested in new, simpler freight shuttles. The freight market was booming, the single market was really beginning to have a profound effect on EU economies, duty free had disappeared and everyone was convinced that, if needs be, you could fill the whole tunnel capacity up with freight.
However original Channel Tunnel Agreement states that tourist traffic must be accommodated. So they will continue to do and if that means reduced capacity and problems at peak times, then that's just a bitter pill which the company has to swallow.
If I had to travel on one of those rare days when tourist traffic exceeds capacity across the market (Maundy Thursday , first days of the summer hols etc), then I'd definitely opt for a ferry out of Dover on an advanced booking.
Whether things change much post Brexit remains to be seen.

Oh dear someone from the "Village of River" complaining about traffic. Come and live up Aycliffe we have Dover TAP next to our little village over a 100 times a year. I think Aycliffe has more claim to a village nowadays.

Do you not go over the top via western heights ??Personally the lorries should not get that far on the A20.Held back nearer Maidstone and a boatload called forward at. A time .Why grid lock so often .

At Aycliffe we have to suffered lorry horns and pollution at any time of night and day for years. Lorries are parked as close as a road width to residents houses In fact the width of Lewisham road in River.. It is gridlocked so often because DHB cannot cope with the numbers. They do not have the capacity. It is forecasted freight traffic levels will increase by 10/20%. When TAP is place Dover is protected from traffic at the western Heights Roundabout. It is the residents of the Village Of Aycliffe who suffer. But no one cares. All DHB see is ££££ in front of their eyes.

You will have to lobby your councillors .Facebook is not the answer.i. Wrote a strong worded email at the week end .They do not talk to each other.Photos in the paper no action.I don’t suppose many in authority even read this Formum.

I have often wondered how DHB have got away with this so long as Pubs/night clubs/late night takeaways can be closed down if their clientele are a nuisance on a regular basis.
Clearly no such action can be taken here but heavy fines shared out to residents affected by the actions of DHBs customers might concentrate the minds of the top dogs in Harbour house that live
somewhere nice well away from the Port.
I doubt if Gary's District Councillor would be interested in getting involved.

We have lobbied since the beginning of TAP. I have written to the old police commissioner (I pointed out that using a lorry/car horn is illegal when stationary),DHB, Highways England. We even have evidence but they do not care. Before you say our local councillors have tried. I will not mention which councillor shows no interest in Aycliffe. Our local MP Charlie has tried in vain to move TAP back. He is even annoyed as much as us. It is Highways England and DHB who are the problem. I even show them my plan.. they all come up with excuses.. I understand that goods have to be moved.. All we have asked for is to move TAP back away from a residential area.

Good luck with your fight, Gary, it must be hell living alongside all that noise and pollution whenever TAP is turned on.
Who is the Councillor who appears not to be supportive of your campaign? He or she should be named if nothing but to make voters aware when he or she next comes up for election.

The only way to get any positive reaction from DHB would be to lock the whole board of directors into a badly affected house for a week when there is one of these awful holdups. The same goes for Highways and KCC leaders, lack of sleep and the continual noise would surely concentrate their seemingly useless minds.

They have to been to meetings up Aycliffe and did they listen ..No.
The last meeting was hijacked by Capel residents complaining about lorries going through their village during roadworks.
I walked out because no one was listening to the complaints of the Aycliffe residents.
