I will reserve judgement until I see how she reacts to the possibility of representing this area in the future but at the moment I tend to side with Howard's comment #75.

Must refer you to ``DDC no change at the top`` # 107.
Having `stepped out of line`by voting against my Party`s policy I gained some enemies ( life long ).
These enemies did their utmost to ruin my political life so I challenged one of them for the leadership of the local Party.
In political terms life became ugly but I beat them resoundingly 18 to 9.
They continued their activities throughout my leadership trying to stop every change I made.
When they became County Councillors with me it continued and unfortunately, for me,one became the leader and one
became the `chief whip`.Political life was difficult and ultimately when their ward was chosen by Labour HQ to be a `Women
only candidate` ward they attempted to change it from their ward to Bill Newman and Keith Sansum`s ward.
Keith and Bill were/are highly respected and they failed, so they choose my ward, where I was the only Councillor.
They succeeded which ended my political life at County.
This is a reason why the majority of politicians do not `step out of line`and `keep their noses clean`and `fall in line`.
All women candidate lists are wrong and the Labour Party has/will suffer for this policy. Many labour leaning voters will not
vote for this Lady through no fault of hers.
The good news for all the ``controlled`` politicians there is life after a political life and its good.
Here endeth the lesson.

caanot comment on most of that but the last part i would partly disagree with.
yes they will lose votes, the peoples party being sexist will not go down well with their support.
the candidate is being blatantly patronised but is willing to accept the nomination which people will take note of as it doesn't say much for her.

So to show just how im even handed in my approach,
the fiasco on the women only shortlist on the county council was the biggest farces going and ending with my resigning in the end.
to show at that time how this leader acted at the time.
the national labour party(rightly) suggested methods to increase women participation in the party at all levels.
the leader of the labour group at the county council at that time then attempted to push this through (remember he was holding one of 2 deal seats)
he suggested the dover seat should be one of the 2 women only
i challenged the national party who told me it was only a suggestion!!!!
the county labour leader at county meetings was pushing for it,
then blaming the regional labour party when it was raised in dover labour meeting.
so i challenged the county party/regional parties
had it even been suggested by the county labour leader to have one deal seat and one dover seat women only it would have rang better, but no he wanted to make sure he held his seat and that of the chief whip.
so i fought them
and although the caved in on the dover seat they then turned there attn to reg
where i again fought with bill newman/reg to change this disaster of a policy
with quite a large number of women in the party agreeing it shouldnt happen.
i could see the party didnt care
so after talks with bill/reg and other labour officials i could no longer continue
this amongst other issues going on at the time.
this leader was a control freak he called me to the county labour group for daring to question him at the local level
of course the county party never even entertained him once it reached there
so i did a 100 mile round trip, to be told, this is rubbish it wont be heard!!!
so off i toddled home!!
but getting back to the thread, dover hasnt woken up to the call and is willing to hope that this little ripple will go away
sadly for them im just warming up

Thank you both for a frank and honest post on the realities of party politics. It reinforces my conviction never to join a party.
Keith, I've been wanting to ask this ever since you changed your avatar to a yellow flower- are you standing against Clair and Charlie for the GlibDems? I'm sure they would have you like a shot.

Is there a reason for that Martin, or are you a traditional Labour voter ?
Would it be because you feel that Labour would spend a lot more money than we could afford (as they did between 1997 and 2010), so we wouldn't have to worry about the austerity measures and be even more in debt than we are now and we could then get an EU bail-out, because we couldn't afford the interest rates ?

I would normally agree with you, Roger, on this issue about Labour.
If it wasn't for the fact that, since May 2010, Britain's sovereign debt has increased by over £150 billion.
That is a worse trend than even Labour managed in any 2 year period!

Yes - Alexander, and yet the ignoramuses of Labour say the Chancellor is cutting too far too fast. As I have said, too little too slow....

Roger re #92, I have worked all my life, the worst times in my working life have been under a Conservative government and a Conservative led coalition. You can quote all the figures you like and blame Labour for the economy, presumably they were to blame for the American economy as well? I am a traditional Labour voter, is that something to be ashamed of?

While delivering a campaign speech one day Theodore Roosevelt was interrupted by a heckler: "I'm a Democrat!" the man shouted.
"May I ask the gentleman," Roosevelt replied, quieting the crowd, "why he is a Democrat?"
"My grandfather was a Democrat, my father was a Democrat and I am a Democrat."
"My friend," Roosevelt interjected, moving in for the kill, "suppose your grandfather had been a jackass and your father was a jackass. What would you then be?"
Alas, Roosevelt was thwarted by the quick-witted heckler, who promptly replied: "A Republican!"
