That was not right Keith and it should not have happened but it has and we seem to have come out of it with a good candidate with strong local connections, rather better than I feared.

local connections?
parachuted in as far as i can see, all the usual rubbish about her working class roots.
how come we have never heard of her until 5 minutes ago?

yes howard as the candidate says she has local backgrounds of her mum and dad being local (mum wsorked in the labour offices locally) dad was a town cllr
and the mum is a district cllr now.
but this candidate did live in london.
but all the rights and wrongs of all of this, no man(where there may have been even better candidates) or this lady could have beaten male candidates.
instead this lady has been imposed.

totally disgusted we are given a choice of two london based candidates that try to overplay their local connections, maybe i should stand for the mayor of london next time using the same guff?

Hi Howard, she is from locally, just been living, working and serving constituents in London until recently. Now she's come back home and hopes to serve here.

Haven't got the foggiest Howard...may have been back visiting Mum and Dad when she heard there was a vacancy, or back in the area working quietly in the background for quite a while......someone political in the local party would know

Born in Dover, grew up in Deal, parents still in Deal I think that qualifies as local connections.

Well done for letting us know post haste Peter.
Very interesting indeed.
I think the whole process nowadays is Westminster based. To get your leg on the serious political ladder you seemingly have to work there, be seen to do well and above all get well connected. The days of a Dennis Skinner with working class red-book roots , table thumping and barnstorming his/her way into parliament is over. Nowadays first of all you need a university education, a good redbricker will suffice for labour but the 'well to do' eton-westminster-oxford route much preferred by Toryism.
The new candidate now needs to hit the ground running. Charlie put himself about for many years prior to getting elected. I have a picture of him somewhere from years ago, both him and his little dog meeting Gwyn in Pencester.
Will try to find it and add it here..its a curio for sure.
Yes here we are...
Charlie popped up almost everywhere, so the message has to be as mentioned.. hit the ground running, get out and mingle..
