It's not what the costs are Sheila, or the income generated, it's the commitment by the DTC of running this one and why they want to give it up.
One of DTC's main statutory respnsibilities is to maintain allotments that they are responsible for; DTC were responsible for this one and if all the allotments are taken up, then it is very successful, so why not seek to renew the contract with MCD ?

looks like little chance of a play area anywhere in the ward if people moan about noise from children.

Couldn't agree more Howard. All other concerns could be covered - climbing over garden walls and fences etc. and opening/closing times.
Any obstacle can be put forward if there is a negative view of an idea; if people want to do something, a way will be found.
I was told the old Clarendon Play Area was no longer suitable or safe to be re-used as a play area, partly because it was too far away from houses and no one could/would keep an eye on the kids playing there. Westbury is now (it seems) deemed to be too close.
The other reason was because it could never comply with DDA (disability) regulations.

i live only a couple of doors away from the centre and have no problem with the friday night fun club or children's discos, i can only presume that the complainers are serial moaners.

To me as an outsider to the area and reading what has been posted on here it seems rather like nimbyism. We back onto the DGGS playground which is also occasionally used by primary school children and hear very little noise.

I try to be neutral and polite but it is hard and getting even more difficult at times.

stirring watty
thankfully i dont need elections and i know our shiela will sail in again
it will be interesting to see how this goes, with lots of sites rejected, time spent very sad
I have no problem with again those in the know speaking to the playgroup in the hall as i recall they were a main objector
which was an issue, and if i recall correctly ofsted would not be happy if the place was open which it would have to be.
now we have a number of issues here;
If it did go ahead;
1; Is this a serious threat to the playgroup presently using the hall?
2; Do we just kick the allotment holders off?
3; pre school children are able to access that area at mo, will this cease?
4; how will pre school children be protected from a more open public area?
5; Will ofsted accept it?
6; locals have opposed it when ;last raised
7; Is this realy the best site?
8; who will look after the site?
Obviously our Roger is desperate to hold on to his marginal seat, thus his leader now trying to grasp at straws to keep him in place, of course like watty's sell off of the port proposal it cost him dearly
maybe its all going to happen again

I am not desparate in any way Keith and if I were, I wouldn't choose this to fight it on.
Ever since I have been a Councillor (2003) and the play equipment was taken away shortly afterwards (organised I must say by the previous Labour administration that Keith was a member of) because it was in a dangerous state, I have been looking for an area for local children to play on.

keith
the issue seems to be one of noise from children, yet 4 and a half days a week the place is running alive with children and friday night also - do we stop those?
who are the locals that opposed it?

If I re-collect Howard, it was the parents/former parents from Westbury on this Forum/Dover Web that gave the most grief over no play area provision.

I do not know why this site is being discussed, the allotments are to carry on, whether or not run by DTC, there are a number of options on the table as to the running of them, it is who they choose out of these options, to run them as efficiently as they have been run recently., no question as to the losing of them, as stated in a previous post, there is a waiting list for these allotments

Thank Yu Sheila.
Can you let me know a simple answer to a simple question I posed earlier ? Why doesn't the Town Council want to administer them any more ?
Is the Town Council concerned about cost ? Surely their first priority is to the people who use it ? Much money has been spent on Maxton and I'm sure that those who use it, are pleased about what has been done there.

How can you say it's just a political stunt by Paul Watkins Keith ? I would suggest otherwise. If DTC had thought more about local kids and their needs, this would have been supported and a small part of the allotments taken for that purpose.
As it is, it's a No No No.
I'd still like answers to my questions in post 57
