Elms Vale & Northbourne Play Areas are being refurbished by Dover District Council. For your chance to see the proposed designs and choose your favourite make sure you attend the consultations at The Ark on the 14th & 15th November between 3 - 5pm.
no mention of the one in priory, must be an oversight

I'm surprised I haven't received an email about that.
There was a consultation back in May I believe and I went up to Elmsvale Rec. to meet the people and see what they had to say - there were some good ideas from the children, but the most mportant thing was that the ground (concrete) between the play equipment was crumbling and holes were appearing and was becoming a danger to the children running between each piece.

You need a good playarea and recreation facilities along the Folkestone Road. The whole area, Clarendon, Westbury could do with extra facilities. I observe many children playing in the street, and Elms Vale is quite a trek.
Westmount, burnt out, sad place, has a huge amount of land around it

I do not think we need to go over all that again.

Westmount is almost ready for a new planning application (there is an extant one in now) and land has been bought next to the station for development of a 500 spoce car-park, retail outlets and apartments, so there will be Section 106/CIL money to help; it's just the site that needs to be found.
My own view - and I have put this forward many times, is that the old Clarendon play-area is a good location as it would accommodate the greatest numbers; children don't need to have a dead-level area to run around and play - the equipment itself needs to be on level ground of course.
I have been told though that this will never happen as legislation has changed over recent years and any new play area will need to be DDA (Disability Discrimination Act) compliant and it can never be that, so the normal healthy kids suffer if they cant get to Elmsvale Rec.

Some nice unused allotments off Belgrave, Howard, if I recall.
Flat land , easy walking access & money ready to do it.
Backs onto community hall who have a small play area , I think.

2 doors from me paul, not sure how many allotments are taken, you need to know the security code to get in. it was a front runner for a play area some years ago, cannot remember why it didn't happen.
roger or sheila will probably know.

no need to paul, roger copies me in on his correspondence with ddc and the officers appear to be doing their best to assist.

I think this area should be revisited.Town Council no longer wish to manage the allotments.

This was (so I thought) an ideal location for a play-area, but the residents of Westbury Road complained because they didn't want to hear the sound of children's laughter in the summer (or anytime come to that !). I paid a visit to a couple of people in Westbury and they showed me their back garden and their entry into the allotments, they were adamant they did not want a children's play area there.
Shortly afterwards, the allotment land, which was and is, owned by the Municipal Charities of Dover, was passed over to the Town Council for them to offer for allotments; I don't know the real reason why, but the Town Council have handed them back (to the MCD).
To my mind, the proximity to houses and in the centre of a residential area, lent this to be an ideal and safe place for children to play, but you can't impose this on residents if they really don't want it. Maybe there's been a change of mind/heart ?

i cannot see how the noise from a play area there would be any more than from the pre-school in summer, maybe this location should be looked at again?

I thought running allotments was a statutory duty of town and parish councils.
