No idea. I suspect smoke and mirrors but will be happy to be proved wrong.

And the Minister would like this done with all despatch. For all ferries (vessels?). Operation Stack anyone?
Anyway, that's that sorted - Get Ferries Done!

Going back to the aspect of qualifications, experience and skills for a moment (against the backdrop of P&O alleging that the MCA is being over-zealous on safety inspections), it is worth noting that the MAIB report into the 2015 Dover Seaways
vs Dover Breakwater incident (which the latter won) concluded the cause was directional control being lost for just
28 seconds. This in the harbour where the speed limit is low. So yeah, it is a skilled job all right!

I don't think many support P. and O actions , the Govt sadly has strong words but little in the way of action , leaving it all to the others to sort out who don't have that legal power .
So for me I will be telling people don't use Pand O
And hope they go under .
Otherwise we are in a position of just accepting a company whoever they may be can just tear up legal agreements , dont abide by UK law, accept themselves they have broken law and would do so again .
Pay some of its employees £1.81 an hour but the majority £5 an hour way below even the minimum wage.
As employees anywhere you should be concerned what's happening here .

Looks like the government has run out of ideas how to stop it and is rolling the pitch to delegate blame....."I've asked the Ports to stop this.." knowing full well they don't have any powers.

So I will continue to campaign against P and O
And if they go under so be it .

Number of sailings is bound to depend on demand. It's Irish Ferries that have changed the picture. Meanwhile, P & O continue to defend the indefensible. They suggest that the whole business will go under, and at this rate they will sink themselves. While decent people suffer.

I guess the Minister forgot the April 1995 ruling that Dover and Plymouth had acted outside their powers when they tried to refuse a new operator who intended to carry livestock. It was held that their powers under s40 of the Harbours Act 1964 to apply such conditions that they saw fit did not permit them to ignore the requirement under s33 of the Harbours, Docks and Piers Clauses Act 1847 to "be open to all persons for the shipping and unshipping of goods, and the embarking and landing of passengers." It is possible for primary legislation to disapply s33 from a port, but I doubt whether it is via secondary legislation such as a Harbour Revision Order.

So the government does appear to have given up. Brexit permitting the very thing it was supposed to stop. The implications will spread far and wide.

Get prepared for another gridlocked weekend unless fingers are pulled out to stop port traffic before it reaches the town, I will not hold my breath and hope I am completely wrong.

(Seriously, the port traffic will definitely stop; it just depends whether you class Aycliffe as part of the town...)
