Thanks Paul, we all have Dover's best interest at heart, without this development we're going nowhere

Oh dear - nearly 70 years after the last shelling, about 40 years since Burlington House went up on the site of the poor old Burlington Hotel (which was in its heyday quite a grand building, certainly more attractive than the soullesss block which replaced it), about 10 years since the Multi Story car park was shut, similar sort of time since MFI became LIDL, 8 years since LIDL closed, 18 months since David L first raised this thread and, unless I'm much mistaken, no overnight fairies have started any works, so certainly no redevelopment can be anticipated over night. Progress is painfully slow and, well, painful. I know that further CPOs have been served in order to acquire some of the outstanding properties. Anyone considering holding their breath should continue to breathe normally and not engage in such obviously suicidal activity in the wait for real signs of actual building activity, next lot of activity will be further demolition most likely. I do hope that the date of the most eagerly anticipated demolition is fixed soon and is trumpeted far and wide well in advance so we can book our seats.

I have said many times we will see the burlington building for years yet I have been right in the pass and right now,the only thing that might happen, and again I say might is more fencing around more parts of that site.Talk yes action NO when it comes around to the voting time again ,we will hear again what great plans there are for the site, just like last time and the time before that, and so on.

I have got to the stage I will believe it when it happens, I am beginning to think I will be dead before it is completed.

the main hold up now seems to be the county hotel who are contesting their compulsory purchase order. as we know once the travelodge is built the mobile phone masts will be transferred there from burlington house which should end any point in the latter existing.

I thought I'd bring this to the top again, I know DDC keeps an eye on the forum and it's our responsibility to hold them to account. They are responsible for the way they spend our money - more than 2 years on from when I started this thread and still absolutely nothing has happened.
Oh hold on I correct myself, a fortune has been spent on "consultants", to what end is anybody's guess.
Those on this thread who have taken the view that "We've heard it all before, nothing will happen" are spot on.
What a shambles it is.

I suppose proceeding at a snails pace is the best we can hope for.

You might be right Howard, the situation hasn't changed for years though.
Would it be too simplistic to suggest DDC is completely out of its depth?
I've seen at DDC a plan/map on the wall showing DTIZ, a cable car, a new marina, Western Heights, mulyti storey parking at the station etc its all a nonsense, they are either disingenuous or incompetent.
What have local taxpayers got for the fortune spent on consultants?
Connaught Park could have lovely flowers and a coat of paint with plenty to spare.

Bores holes started for construction phase of hotel undertaken on Monday.
New marina & cable car are held up from progress because of no decision yet on port.
Western Hts/Farthinglowe . planning application is at planning stage hopefully to Committe in January.
Priory station car park has a government financial allocation & jt partnership working thru legals in preparation of planning permission submission.
As for Connaught if David wants different priorities then perhaps he should get elected & be part of the reality of decision making choices..
As ever always try to be helpful!!

Thank you Paul for the update,
It is always helpful to have the official version rather than relying on the numerous rumours that can fly around.

i have been told by various sources about the uncertainty of the future of the port causing investors to hold back, the cable car in particular.
we have discussed connaught park at length on another thread and it is generally accepted that community involvement will be needed to keep it up to scratch.

Decision making choices eh Paul, like the decision to spend £100k+ on "consultants" with no tangible return - who's decision was that? The recession is a convenient excuse for people to hide behind the cutback excuse when in reality nothing is happening.
You seem to be saying if I think I can do better I should have a ho myself, which is a fair point. The reality is there are people in place who dont seem up to the job, they've lifted their head over the parapet and should be prepared to take the consequences.
