Roger - 27 May 2012 07:36174909I sat through all this..a marathon it was of extraordinary length, I should have gone into training beforehand with Claire, a puffin and a struttin to get into better mental shape for the sheer endurance.
However it has a sort of strange fascination, once you start you cant stop, you cant get off the threadmill until the final nail in the coffin.
I was intrigued to see how ancient dinosaur Humperdinck would perform, he was in the charts before I was an immigrant!!
And as expected he was very poor indeed. Sadly he had all the slow speed spectacle of a slug making its way through long grass. Nice little song perhaps but more suited to funerals. You know the moment...when the time comes to play the dear departed's favourite tooooone.
Not Engleberts fault, after all he is 76 years old, but everyone else performing was a third of his age, most bursting with energy and soaring voice. Its the fault of the people that selected him. I see Arlene Philips was also on the team..luvaduck, the whole group were ancient. Im no spring chicken myself but they make even me look like a teenybopper whippersnapper!
The energetic duo from Ireland, jedward, didnt do as well as expected in the scoring but they did okay overall.
Speaking of Oirish geezers, that Graham Norden is rubbish doing it. Fellow countryman Wogan was good in his day doing it, so they slotted in another Oirish accent but it hasnt worked. He is no Wogan and speaks over the acts and so on, he couldnt get his timing right for love nor money Strewth! get rid.
But back to the UK, they finished second last out of ever more countries entering..so last and second last is a long way down. Norway took up their usual position at the bottom of the pile. Sweden won it with a cracker. Picked it myself on my scorecard ..
...so there!
ADDED: speaking of cost, as mentioned by Roger there...Azerbijan spent a fortune on it, but as was said ..they have oil flowing out of the ground. However I did fall asleep during second half so I expect entertainment value was about the same.
I just wonder just how much money the BBC waste on the Eurovision, but then some people do like to watch it. - 27 May 2012 08:59174941The football was dreary Im afraid so no wonder you dropped off Harry. It was a friendly match and I thought it was klcking off earlier than it did. They came on air at 7pm and waffled on endlessly and pointlessly for 50 minutes before a ball was kicked. Adrian Giles is out of his comfort zone doing that time wasting chatter. How do these guys get these jobs, I mean he is fairly useless. The match started late. I had assumed I would get up to half time in before Energetic Englebert hit our screens...but no.. I did hop back and watch some of it. Saw the goal. But you can tell cant you how a match is going to shape out. Nothing sparkling about the England team.
But the Eurovison did produce the best song I have heard in a while. The Swedish one, so listen out for that. It's a belter..it romped away with the scoring. More in 74 above.email: dover7@msn.com - Keith Sansum1
