Here's the latest pic of our great hope, taken in Los Angeles a couple of days ago, what's the betting he'll have black hair and mahogany skin on the night -
On the other hand he could be scuppered by the Russian entry, a 'girl' band average age 75!

Stage makeup!
Sometimes he even looks like Buddy Holly in his younger days.

apparently there has been a change of entrant due to englebert having to send his chest wig to the dry cleaners.

One of those things you sometimes wish you hadn't got involved in
On the other hand, Frank Horlick used to be in this Canadian band -
http://www.begoodtanyas.com/home As the last time we won was with another Canadian import perhaps we should ask him if he's free next year.
(if you're thinking "Whhhatt! this is getting surreal" then watch the clip - I would just like to know what Howard was doing to find it!)

my spies are everywhere ray.
i was thinking what with your banjo, keith with his spoons, my tuneless whistle and brian on vocals we could form a new boy band.
i am sure we could get a governmnent grant to kick start things.

You want to be careful about kicking, Howard, something could ping........

after more thought a manager/promoter would be needed, cue john with his impressario skills and contacts.
then we need someone to organise some groupies for the band, funny how the same name keeps cropping up.

The song has been released today, notice the careful backlighting in the video to avoid showing the wrinkles

"The more you listen to it, the stronger it gets," said Humperdinck. "It's not a one-time listen." - that should get the votes pouring in on the night then!

a bit unfair there colin, englebert did say that you had to listen to it a few hundred times before it grows on you.

We can at least rejoice in the knowledge that Englebert is NOT the oldest contestant. Nosireee bob ! This russian troupe below are representing the mighty Russia in the whirlygig extravaganza...its a bizarre troupe of traditional grandmothers and one of them is 76 and they all hover around that age...they make Englebert look like a teenager. These are surely destined for the famed 'nil point'...although having said that they might just surprise as a novelty.
...more wodka Ludmilla more wodka!!
Lets hope Engiebert can do that LIVE! Very slow and subdued, lets hope he isnt on immediately after Jedward.

Just seen PaulB's pic of the Russian grannies destined for the Eurovision Song contest, you just couldn't make this stuff up! However, I just also noticed Ray's link above and have treated myself to a listen and Wow!!! they have my vote, at least its a happy go lucky song and they all seem alive and jolly well kicking, at the moment anyway
Englebert's song sent me to sleep
Howard, I'll be your groupie for freeeeeeeeeee

Steve Wright on Radio 2 has just played our Eurovision entry then faded it into Kermit the Frog singing Rainbow Connection from the Muppet Movie.
The words are obviously different and the Muppets has a superior banjo backing instead of the Spanish guitar on Engelbert's song (

), but apart from that they are almost identical - I predict a copyright lawsuit
