Ian, I read already four days ago on Sky live - and saw with my own eyes - that Libyans are gathering around possible bombing targets in Tropili, and Sky journalists explained this to the public through camera and microphone.
It has nothing to do with SAS.
The British Army is not involved in the war in Libya.

You can bet your last cuff link that the SAS are on the ground in Libya.

How do you think Alex that guided missiles or bombs hit their target with such precision, within meters.
They are guided in by forces on the ground, if the situation is in error it is aborted by forces on the ground.

No, Ian. The missiles are not guided by people on the ground, but go by co-ordinates that have been inserted prior to the mission, which involves the pilots knowing where they are in their planes, and going by digital information.
The UN mandate expressly does not call for ground troups to be in Libya, and no British soldiers are in Libya.

OK Alex if you insist, there are no ground troops in Lybia.

Gentlemen one thing is certain about the deployment of special forces on the ground in Libya, you or i will not know whether they are there or not. Also at the moment it probably would not be the SAS used in that task as that task is now handled by different units of the special forces.

No, Ian. The British Government cannot have any soldiers in Libya, the UN resolution does not envisage it. No long essay needed.

Let me just say that i had lunch a couple of weeks ago in the special forces club in London the lecture afterwards was mainly about the role of newer units in the special forces.

Dave knows that he can't just go firing off Britain's missiles and leave us defenceless.

Alexander - the SAS are in Libya acting as ground spotters and lighting up targets with laser sights. This is how a lot of munitions are targetted accurately. They did indeed call off an air strike due to human shields, the RAF said what happened not the SAS. The Tornadoes had to return to the UK without delivering their munitions.

LOL Marek....
Of course we know Vic.
For one thing we know Paveway laser guided bombs are being used and these need the SAS spotters, its what they do.

the mandate was for a no fly zone, yesterday senior military figures said that the libyan air force was now non existent.
what happens now?
this is the tricky part as i doubt the u.n. would authorise use of land forces.

Barry, your information cannot be correct. You cannot possibly claim that SAS are in Libya, you cannot possibly have such information.

Alex - if you want to think that then fair enough.

I would bet a very large amount of money that the SAS are in every country where there is conflict that we are engaged in or might be engaged in.
