I think old Gadaffi duck and his son Sayfe could end up like Saddam, on the end of a length of rope.

i hope you are not referring to those bars of soap given to us all in good faith as christmas presents in the eighties.
on a less serious note i doubt that the libyan tyrant will go the same way as the iraqi one, he has great support in his half of the country and the best of the armaments.

Now it's back to 2 weeks ago: the rebels are leaving Bengazi and marching in direction Tripoli! A whole series of towns and cities lie along the coast before Tripoli, so there could be a whole new series of conquests, street to street fighting, and civilians again involved too. All these same towns to be revisited!
This must be sheer madness! Is this what MP cameron sent British armed forces in for?

I was born in an Army base and brought up in one; I can assure you that I snuff out a foul strategy when I see one being presented.
The rebels are the foot infantry in this one, and not the West. I could only advise them to accept a cease-fire and respect it. If they don't there is a good chance that public opinion will demand that the West pulls out of the area.
I do not believe the bombing and missile raids can go on for long, because the indignation here at home, in Africa and in the Middle East will not tollerate the rebels taking advantage of it to attack Libyan cities again and overrun them.
I think we have all understood in the meantime that many Libyans are not in favour of the rebels and are prepared to fight them off when the rebels try attacking their town and cities.
I suppose it depends whether the wind is coming from the East or from the West, Ian, and how one looks at it, namely from which point of view.
Sometimes there can be two point of views.

Don't matter were you were born or brought up Alex.
Two points of view, one conclusion.
Gaddafi duck is a dictator, a murderer and will continue to be as long as he lives, after 30yrs of power he does not want to let go, nor does his d**k head of a son.

he loves power and knows that if the worst comes to the worst he would always have half the country to rule.

I am beginning to be quite concerned by the woolly logic and uninformed pronouncements going on here.
No, I don't mean on the forum, I mean from Whitehall/Downing St.
Today's banner headline in the Telegraph confirms the fears I expressed yesterday: "Minister admits there is no Libya exit strategy". Have they learned nothing from the messes created in Iraq and Afghanistan?
To cap it all, a junior minister was being interviewed on BBC Breakfast this morning and insisted that, yes although the Storm Shadow missiles they are using do cost £500k a pop, there is no cost in using them (apart from the fuel used to deliver them) because they are already paid for!

Gadaffi and his thugs are forcing women and their children to hold vigils surrounding military targets. This is deplorable and in-defensible and he and his thugs should be dealt with.
But not by launching missiles, killing those innocent woman and children, and then claiming, it's not our fault, it was him who put them in harm's way.
By killing them, we are no better than him.

Another issue which I have not seen discussed is - exactly whom are we helping? We were woolly about that in Afghanistan where we supported the Mujahideen against the Soviets, only to see them become the Taliban once the Russkies had gone home. In Libya we risk removing Qadhafi only to leave either a. a power vacuum, b. civil war between warring factions, some of whom may be worse than the existing regime, or c. a resurgence of Islamism.

SAS spotters identified 'human shields' around a target and called off a RAF strike accordingly. All that can be done is being done not to endanger civilians.

Barry, the SAS don't tell you what they are doing, so I doubt that they spotted anyone anywhere.
It was common knowledge that many Libyans are gathering around possible bombing targets in Tripoli, and the journalists in Tripoli have been giving live footage of it.

Alex, the SAS don't tell any one what they are doing, common sense tells you what they may be doing.
