What am I on about now?.
Well it is the controversial plans for the Whitfield development.
Over the last two years I have been saying keep the fight going do not give up on this development not happing.
As you all know most of the public that live at Whitfield do not want this development in any forum to go ahead, and as just one of the parish cllr on the Whitfield I am right behind them in trying to stop it going ahead.
As you see in the local papers last week the first phase were withdrawn from the Dover District Council,s planning meeting.
This does not mean it will still not go ahead but a hold up is a hold up and gives more time to try and stop it from going ahead,the more holdups there is, adds to the cost to the development to both the district council and the developer of the site.
In the end the development might just be put hold long term, so we must keep up the fight and look for all the loop-holes in the development to keep Whitfield as it is today a very nice place to live and still keeps it own identity as a parish. - Keith Sansum1

I applaud your committment to a cause, but do find from time to time your not always carrying the people with you.
Let me give you two examples;
1; At the town hall peoples port meeting , your outburst at the end of the meeting
was both disrespectful, but clearly not what that audience wanted to hear
and could have been done elswhere, you put a fair questuion forward at the
start of the meeting as did others many remained unanswered which would
have helped your case, but your outburst at the end didn't gain you many
friends from the people you state you fight for.
Clearly as i said outside, this was a bad move, and put you in a bad light for
many reasons, including.
A;Disrepecting the Mayor
B;Vote loser
C;Wrong audience
2; The second campaign is the latest you report on the Whitfield developement
in the local elections had local opinion in whitfield been against the
developement then the tories would not have gained the 2 seats from the
lib dems.
Clearly it wasn't even a close call, people in whitfield were happy to elect
2 tories happy in there leaflet to have the developement in whitfield.
So vic you do need i feel tio reflect on the campaigns to be involved in
and look at, is this about just getting publicity for vic, or am i on the same
wavelengnth as the local people.
I hope this advice can be taken as just that, advice to a friend, we can all learn from each other.
I have strong views on both of thse campaigns, but feel it better to put the arguments forward, trying in the process to take people with you.

I totaly disagree with your comment, if the locals of whitfield didnt want the developement, then they would have sent a clear message to the tories locally and at westminster.
Clive was a very popular cllr, and this one issue was one would have got people passionate enouigh to vote lib dem.
Whilst the national scene would have hadan effect, this campaign iun a very small area should have been enough to get at least Clive back into council.

Keith, you are totally out of range with the above mentioned explanations. The Town-hall meeting to present (duscuss?!) the parish pole has absolutely nought to do with the Whitfield building plans.
Last year I received an email from someone in Whitfield informing me that many people there simply hope the economic situation in Britain will be so bad, that DDC simply drop at least most of the plans to build up the area there.
As we all know, DDC made no public consultaion in the sense: "do you want the urbanisation plans, yes, or no?"
...but rather did it this way: "the plans will go ahead whether you like it or not, to the last brick, and not one less, but just say whether you want a a thump in the left eye or in the right eye".
Such public consultation has nothing to do with democracy, and as Paul W said clearly before the publ;ic consultation period in November last year was over: "there is nothing you can do about it".

- 9 June 2011 10:44109465Alexander, you have put quotation marks around something that DDC obviously didn't say, and there was significant public consultation. The outline proposals were a set of documentation that sat about two feet high and were sent to all parish councils that were adjacent and likely to be affected, not just Whitfield.
As far as I am aware Whitfield parish council have accepted that the development will go ahead and are working to get the best out of it for the village. Lydden parish council have voted to support Whitfield parish council in their views, so as Vic is a member of both (once he eventually deserts a River parish council meeting to sign on at Lydden

- 9 June 2011 13:09109482it is all about gaining "growth point" status, i am not au fait with the details but basically if a local authority agrees to house building on their manor the government will give said local authority a wheel barrow load of untraceable bank notes for spending locally.

I stand by what I say, although paulw may have not done so well at the public meeting in whitfield, and was jeered at that time, since then a number of meetings have taken place with all manor of people living in and around whitfield, including fierce opponents of any build, who have since come round to agreeing to some build.
As i say this issue if it was so big would have seen the 2 conservative candidates get a very low vote which they did not, they took out a very active lib dem.

I recall you saying to me you were going to attend a parish meeting and try to convince them to go for a referendum, where i said to you, what about if they don't, you said well you will then push for a referendum against there wishes.
