MCD,currently Gorley House is being refurbished .Solar panels are being fitted to help with heating bills .Small flats are being knocked into providing larger accomodation .
Hopefully in the near future the properties in Cowgate Hill can be refurbished to provide more homes for the elderly .
Roger may correct me but MCD manage ninety units of homes for the elderly .These are well sought after and we have a waiting list .These units have a Sheltered Housing manager someone on call to give advice and help when needed
Some of the flats in Albany House have had wet rooms provided when the resident cannot manage the problems of getting into a bath or a shower .
That's good news Sue, thanks for the update.
Are you or Rogre able to advise how many pairs of Boots were handed out in the last full operating year? These are paid for from the 'Boot Fund Charity' which is part of MCD/DMC. Obviously the names of recipients are not required if embarrasment is to be avoided.

With the Boot Charity, my understanding is that different schools are chosen each year and then vouchers are given to the school as they know the deserving children who need (but can't afford) new shoes/trainers.
They can't use the capital (in the account) but do use the interest to buy shoes or vouchers.
I don't know how many vouchers the money bought.
Gorley House is going to cost hundreds of thousands of pounds - to improve the living conditions of their residents.
The money they get in from donations all go back in to create more and better housing.

Roger is correct however I would point out that vouchers are given and not cash to the children .This means they have to go to a supplier in Dover and this year they used an outlet where shoes are cheaper??
Sad fact of life that there are many children who donot have decent foot wear .
A few years ago Roger and I asked for a small amount of money to be given to a a school so some deserving cases could obtain foot wear .MCD only do this once a year and the schookls are on a rota system .We new the need was great however we were voted down by Labour councillors and supporters
Just goes to show .We tory toffs have hearts.

Yes I remember that now Sue - voted down by Labour Councillors - and they think they have a social conscience, rubbish.
Actually, I'm not a toff - just a Tory.

Roger
As you know I have tremendous respect for you, your wife and views. But why you insist on voting Tory baffles me...re-introduce fox hunting..abolish inheritance tax, scrap sure start and winter fuel allowance,do away with the minimum wage, stop gays from staying in B&Bs,increase VAT and reduce taxes for the very rich 2% of the country.
Aye up lad perhaps time for a rethink..

Marek
I think therefore I am (not a Tory supporter)

That's just a lot of nonsense Marek.
I don't like foxhunting because I don't like to see people getting pleasure out of foxes being torn to bits - find other ways to cull them if there is a need.
I think that inheritance tax should be done away with for estates worth less than say £600,000
Sure-start is useful, but very expensive, not every one needs it, but everyone gets it.
Winter-fuel is necessary for many people but not those with big pensions or income; it should be stopped for people living overseas.
Not sure about minimum wage, I'd like more information from both sides of the argument.
Gays can stay where they wish to, but as Guest Houses or B & B's are privates homes and not Hotels, then the owners either should have the choice, or not run a guest house or B & B.
I've not heard anything about putting up vat, but wouldn't agree with it.
I think we need to look after the wealth-creators but they should pay their dues and perhaps a higher rate for those earning mega bucks.
I could never, ever vote for Labour, they are against everything I stand for; they care nothing for the working class, they are hypocrits in the extreme and liars too; they screw everything up they touch and are so totally incompetant it's scary.
There is not one good thing I could say about this Labour Government, not one.
It seems to be "keep people down and make them more dependant on the state"; give them a hand-out, not a hand-up - to a better life.

You only have to ask Roger or myself re DMC .
It is not a secret society .I have previously stated the aims of the charity and the very good work it does for the elderly within our community .
We have Mcabe ,Ford and Williams who do a splendid job in managing our financial affairs and the accounts are audited by another firm on an annual basis .
Smith Wooley and Perry oversee our property portfolio and give advice when to sell and not to sell .
DMC has a Management Board of Trustees .Four of which are appointed by DDC .
Roger ,Cllr Jim Hood ,Cllr Smallwood and myself
Mr Bryan Cope ,County member is the Chairman .
The rev David Ridley and Bob Tant are another two .
There are three more trustees
Day to day work is overseen by a paid Generasl Manager and she is excellent .We also have a Sheltered Housing Manager who looks after the needs of our residents and an Admin Officer .
All above board no nasty secrets .
Perhaps some of you would care to look round our excellent facilities
MCD are a business .Do you all want to look into the affairs od Dot Perkins ,MS .
KFC,Smiths etc .I think not .There are no secrets
Its not public money
. .
So whose money is it Sue?
What confuses me is why this information you publish freely here, and I am very grateful for it, can only be drawn from MCD via their legal advisors and only after much asking and waiting? Maybe their reluctance/incompetence whichever it is, leads enquirers to think they are trying to hide something.
And yes Sue, as it happens I do like to look at the affairs of some of those you mention, plus more besides, for professional reasons mainly.
Nonetheless, many thanks for the open answers.

The money comes from rents we collect from the residents within the complex .We receive rents from our commercial properties and when we sell a property as we did recently in Castle Street it goes into our coffers and makes some interest .
We dont receive any government funding

If the MCD are not a 'secret society' and we 'only have to ask' Sue or Roger, please could either trustee publically list here the properties the MCD own on London Road. Thank you.

Sorry Phil, but surely that is commercial sensivity.I have already stated we donot draw money from the public purse .I believe there are many people who own property in Dover .A good excample was the amount of properties the late John Ullman owned .
Im sure this information can be found on the land registery site .
I think you all have the wrong impression re MCD .The good work they do is never publicly acknowledged .People who live in our complex are very happy .Improvements are being made all the time
Im also involved with Age Concern that does receive public funds but no one questions re the services we provide .
It is complete mishchief making .I shall be with the Chairman tonight and perhaps we can arrange for some sort of open day ..

Towards the end of her life my mother-in-law lived in the Battle of Britain homes. The warden at the time was Mrs Polly. The care and attention that she received and the accomodation were excellent. Full points to MCD from that point of view.

Thank you Sid on that one even the left hand does not know what the right hand is doing in that Group. There is a lot of good being done by them, but it is the set up and how much funding they do have in the bank etc ,is what I would like to know.
