Minutes of Meeting Held on 10th October at The Bull Inn, London Road
Present - R Miller, A Luckett, T Nunn, P Eyden
Apologies - S Jones, P Brivio, L Brisley
1. Xmas Light Switch On
It was agreed we would run a stall at this event, the stall would feature a workshop making Xmas cards.
Further it was stressed that both mains power and lighting will be required & the Secretary was asked to communicate this to DTC.
It was also agree that we would offer two of our folding table for the use of other community groups.
2. Xmas Window Competition
It was agreed that we should run this again.
The Secretary was asked to pt together a press release and the text for an A4 poster, which A Luckett offered to then add artwork to. T Nunn offered to assist with handing the leaflets out to retailers in the area.
3. Lamp Post Banners
The Secretary advised that the group had received a grant check from DTC and that the next tasks were to establish the cost of brackets and to agree on the themes for the banners. The Secretary will pursue the former with DTC and asked A Luckett to come up with some ideas for the themes, it was also suggested we should approach C Smith of DAD for ideas. Finally all agreed that this should be something we engage local schools with and AL agreed to undertake this.
AOB
a. The publican of the Bull reported a significant dog fouling issue at the corner of London Road & Barton Road - the Secretary agreed to pass this onto the council with a request for urgent action
b. The current marquee used by LRCF is showing its age and is leaking etc. - the meeting agreed that the Secretary should look to acquire a new heavy duty tent asap
c. The Meanwhile Space proposals are still live, but await the next MCD Trustees Meeting to make a decision on the offer made, The outcome of this also affects the proposal to approach MCD about painting a mural on the gable end wall of 2-3 London Road.
d. Finally it was agreed that the LRCF Xmas Party should be held in The SevenSeas Portuguese Restaurant on London Road - the Secretary will follow this up and report back at the AGM
The next meeting is the Annual General Meeting which will be held on 14th November at 19.30 in the Louis Armstrong PH.

Good meeting Ross, thanks for the minutes.
With regard to the banners mentioned, are they the Olympic banners around Town on various lamp-posts ? If they are, I'm pleased you (LRCF) took up the initiative - I wrote to the Town-Team about them, but naturally didn't receive any kind of reply from anyone (the email was sent to 18 people and not one of them replied).
Good Luck with it all Ross.

I have visions of Roger waking up in the night and shreiking
The Town Team won't listen, The Town Team won't listen.
I've lost count of the number of threads you manage to crowbar the topic onto Roger, instead of sniping and criticising why don't you stop and consider your approach.
By the way Ross, sorry to rant on your thread, good luck with your initiatives.

Michelle Cooper wrote an email to DDC asking for permission to keep one of the Olympic banners when they come down, and received a reply saying that the Olympic banners were the property of LOCOG and were copyrighted and would not be released under any circumstances to members of the public; I therefore very much doubt, Roger, that the banners referred to in Ross' minutes are those ones. However, if you ask DDC, I don't see why the brackets couldn't be retained - and this would surely save heaps of money.
Thanks for the minutes, Ross. Always admirable, the commitment of LRCF members.
True friends stab you in the front.

Andy, we looked into this, the marketing company wants to charge for use of the brackets, on top of the production and fitting of the banners the cost becomes prohibitive.

Re the banners I was cc'd on a message a few days before the deadline so didn't have any opportunity to look into it:
"You may be aware that DDC had various lamppost brackets and banners installed for the Olympic and Paralympic Period throughout Dover. These banners are due to be removed at the end of September however; there is the opportunity for the brackets to remain if an organisation wishes to opt into a scheme whereby you purchase the banners for a cost of £99 per banner (if booked before 30th September) and £135 per banner (if booked after 30th September). Unfortunately, there is not an option to purchase your own banners. The new banners would be installed at the end of September when the old ones are removed.
The scheme is run by Bay Media, who have confirmed that the brackets and banners remain the property of Bay Media throughout the scheme. I am unsure of the exact details of the agreement with Bay Media if you choose to opt into the scheme.
DDC will not be taking part in the scheme, but if you are interested in these banners, I can put you in contact with the representative at Bay Media so that you can liaise directly with them going forward. I will need a response by Wednesday 19th September if you are interested. "
Been nice knowing you :)

I had that self same conversation with DDC - so much for Olympic Legacy - in fact DDC would have to lease the brackets for a 5 year period and then pay the quoted amounts per banner, I have indicative quotes from local printers at roughly half that cost....

I did contact DDC about the Olympic banners and was sent an email as per Scotchie's email and sent that info to the Town Team.
I read nothing about a five year contract, but thought that £135 was quite dear, but also felt that if local businesses were to promote their business (via the Town Team) on those banners, then that would generate an income for the Town Team and give local businesses greater exposure.
David, it's not about continually sniping at all, I send you (the Town Team) information and suggestions that I believe will be of use to you and Dover, the thing that causes me "concern", is that of those 18 people I send the emails to, no one has the courtesy to reply, even if it is only a "Thanks but no Thanks".
I want Dover to move forward as much as you do.

Roger, re the banners, yes £135.00 is expensive, on top of that you have to hire the bracket and then a cherry picker to fit them - how can the Town Team make any money from that?
I'm really not sure who the 18 people are, there are only officially 5 of us in the team, we have all seen the document which is interesting but not groundbreaking.
On another thread you once again suggest that DDC, DHB and the Town Council would contribute to the funding of a Town Centre Manager; Roger you are a DDC councillor and ex Town Councillor with contacts in the DHB, I will absolutely guarantee that if you can find the money for the right person we will start the recruitment process immediately.

They most probably arrived in their spam box Roger and that is why you did not get a reply. Anyway after all this time just let it go.
