we were all up in arms when a couple of top brass at k.c.c. walked off with massive pay offs after being considered not up to the job.
this was put down to the public sector being not very good at negotiating contracts.
here we have a private conglomerate that have done exactly the same with a much larger pay off.

Let 'us' not make the, all too, typical mistake of fixing our minds on the (relative) sums involved. It is the plain fact that compensation was paid, full stop, that matters.

Politicians have been virtually "useless" so far at getting to the truth behind the banking scandal, one of the MPs responsible for investigating the affair has admitted.
Andrea Leadsom, whose forensic questioning of the former chief executive of Barclays, Bob Diamond, led to his only uncomfortable moments during last week's cross-examination by the Commons Treasury Select Committee, said: "I don't think we felt we did a fantastic job. It's a fair criticism to say, 'You guys were useless'.
"We had great weaknesses in that we didn't have email trails.

Osborne is a part-time Chancellor with one eye on the `ball` but it should not be on `Ed`it should be on the economy which
is the worst for decades and in double dip.

not seen anything on that myself but the chancellor is hardly covering himself in glory here, normally percieved as a squeaky clean type until now.

"Creating a British investment Bank to lend to small businesses."
Lending to small business is not the job of an investment bank.

Bank of England Deputy Governor Paul Tucker`s evidence at this afternoon`s Parliament hearing is an indictment
on Osborne and Charlie needs to clarify his statement to Parliament.

I think Charlie's article in last week's Dover Express clarified his views perfectly. Not that there was anything vague about his Commons intervention.

As I pointed out elsewhere - Tucker was shifty and, as Tyrie told him, being 'economical with the truth'.
I have to laugh though at the defence of Labour Ministers, defending them for things they have not been accused of while ignoring what they were in fact accused of and hoping the public will be blind enough not to see the difference.
Osborne correctly said that Balls has questions to answer.
Labour Ministers have been accused of applying pressure to Barclays Bank to fiddle Libor - not pressure on the Bank of England.
