  Unfortunately wasnt able to bring this picture to you yesterday but here I am better late than never. The visitor yesterday was the fabtastic Star Princess, a seriously terrific looking cruise liner. Along with everything else it almost seems to have a built in ski slope facility...and.. Wot a whopper! Despite one or two items of poor news recently re Dover and its cruise liners, this one proves we are still up there in the big league. Look how tight a fit it is...not much room to spare there getting into the harbour, they must have a good 'driver' onboard for sure..
  
  

  

  
  The picture was taken early morning shooting into the light so not ideal, should have got someone to move the sun into a better position!

  Ah...while I was dawdling here on the Forum two new ones have arrived for today in the past few minutes...so.. there seems to be a pickup in activity. The big one is the MSC Orchestra, sadly I believe MSC are moving to Southampton, as I understand it anyway, also in is the smaller Empress
  
  

  

  
  
  The picture below, taken at considerable distance, shows the lineup of coaches waiting to whisk the passengers away from dear oul Dover...anywhere but Dover seems to be the policy. Is there a body in Dover that could set about changing this philosophy??

  there were loads on tourists in market square yesterday.
  
  they were met by a closed off fountain, a blank big screen and some boarded up shops.

  Not all the tourists went up to Canterbury and London, the Market Square was heaving with them. I had a breakfast in Mandy's about 10.30 and there were two in there. I had a nice chat with them, they were waiting for a couple of friends coming down from London. I saw quite a few going into St. Mary's for a look round as it was open to the public.
  
  Later on in the afternoon I popped into the Eight Bells and the place was full of them. I hope that they didn't think it was a typical English pub.

  The cruise ships may look like the Gateway, but as a resident of same, I want to know where are our ski slope, swimming pool, library, 6 different sorts of restaurant, nightly entertainment etc etc

  I wonder Alec what would be regarded as a typically English Pub nowadays, is there such a thing anymore ?..is there one in Dover?

  Caters for the German cruise market. Serious graffiti on the side.
  
  Fred Olsen's regular the Braemar is on CT1 with Mein Schiff on CT2. Braemar was jumboised some years ago with an extra centre section inserted.
  
  Love the Star Princess referred to above. Been in before more than once and one of the largest cruise ships we get in Dover. Disagree that she looks like a block of flats like so many of the others, has several intriguing features. Had a nasty fire on one of the balconies a year or two ago which has led to revision of fire detector requirements on cruise ships with balconies.

  Yes Sid it is the Tui logo.
  
  I'll be taking my new Discover Dover leaflets down to the cruise terminals and giving some to Horace in the Market Square (when cruise ships are in) so hopefully that may help businesses and the tourism sites.
  
  There's also of course the buses that take passengers up to the Castle and into town, they need some too.

  Yes we certianly have seen a good selection of ships in over the past few weeks is it me or is everyone of them getting that much bigger.
