As I mentioned in earlier postings Sheila, no actual planning rules were broken. If it had been refused, then the portacabin would have had to have been removed - by enforcement if necessary.
I don't like retrospective applications, but we cannot refuse them just because they are retrospective. Maybe central government should be lobbied to get the rules changed, but until then, we have to make decisions (popular or not) and please bear in mind that one side will always be happy and the other, unhappy; whatever we decided, we couldn't please everyone and we are not there to please - per sae, but to follow the rules and guidelines as close as possible.
Keith - what do you mean "Priory Ward done again" ?

Roger
Whilst on the council I highlighted(sometimes with your support) the implications of taking planning applications as they do at present.
It's correct that this is a mess, but sadly as i said the wider applications have a serious affect on the priory ward(other wards to)
We can hide behind its not my fault guv, or we can say enough is enough.
Brian
Your correct on Aycliffe but thats conservative market forces at its best

As you say Roger he broke no planning rules,, what about the rules to run a business (ie) license wise, I suppose we can also run a business from our property without having to have a license to run it, also why did he not break the rules, week after week planning applications come in for illuminous signage, no application came through for his signage, it seems there are rules for some people and businesses and different rules for others. He also stated that he had no financial interest in the pharmacy and store, I find that hard to believe, when in 2011 he became director of White Cliffs medical centre and Director of the White Cliffs Enterprise at Canterbury, this I dont think should be given up on, and as I said needs bringing to central government

Just because you don't agree with a Planning decision, doesn't mean it is a wrong or corrupt decision.
I don't like the implication there and certainly do not agree with it.
Keith and Reg. you both should know better than to imply that some people get preferential treatment because they have money.
If you have anything to back your accusations up, I would suggest you let us know or I will make the Planning Department aware of your accusations.

So, to return to the thread, and to speak solely of the thread title, Priory ward suffers from decisions made by officers on the ward, the implications are wide, and local people have to live through them.
On the question of right or wrong, obviously I have strong opinions on this, and one route is to change how the planning dept operates, but the more recent changes to planning put in by this govt will give local people even less of a say

There is no can of worms. There 's always room for improvement on anything, but there's no worms.

Brian ~ Time has certainly changed for Aycliffe.... Used to have a Co-op store with butcher section, busy Newsagents with a Post Office and not forgetting Sunny Corner Stores and the then very thriving King Lear Pub..... A very busy church and full school.
On the planning note... It is such a shame that you have the people that follow the rules and planning takes forever or they end up failing to get a perfectly acceptable idea through and then you have all the rest who want to do it their way and flout the rules and seem to win.
Folkestone Road will benefit from the tidyness and facility it brings, but just a shame it has caused so much bad feeling with folk on the way.
