Nope. Still unable to see a problem with his tweets.
He described the demonstrators in slightly vulgar words but surely it works both ways. The other day Rod Liddle wrote a piece in the Sun newspaper (oh oh expect brickbats like the Sun is a comic and not a newspaper etc etc) about those with disabities and the flak he received was, frankly appalling. So it cuts both ways.
Is it that he is a councillor or is it that the comments are held to be offensive?
As I say it cuts both ways.
So bankers are "evil" and "fascist". Those who don't believe in the global warming religion are "evil sceptics". The tories are "toffs". Sun readers are stupid. Mail readers are curtain twitching middle Englanders. George Bush is a war-mongering maniac. We all have our pet prejudices and express this in words which will eventually offend somebody.
It's rather like those who complain to the BBC as soon as, say, Jeremy Clarkson says something construed to be offensive by serial complainers.
Why does everybody have to be a victim nowadays.
Why don't people just grow up and learn to take flak without crying like children?
It's bonkers.

Bern , what have you started?
Well.............
My point, Philip, was mainly that if a former poster on here could be sacked and in a way victimised for perceived racism on twitter, why is this different? It matters very much that we talk about race and disability but not to promote a victim culture, more to empower a traditionally victimised social group. I am not, in this thread, commenting on whether that eejit in Essex was right ot wrong - I am asking a question in the hope of a decent conversation about it.
Paul - let's see what happens!!!!!
Perhaps tin hats could be on stand by...

BERN;
I think my position was made clear on bob frost when little action was taken against him by mr watkins and his party.
ALEXANDER;
IT's ok to make such comments if your in the conservative group on DDC

Genuinely, I am not taking a view on it, just hoping for the conversation.

I wasn't referring to any comments Paul Watkins made on DDC, but to that of the Essex councillor.
The term "unwahed" means dirty and smelly, and was possibly - and wrongly - in reference to their physical condition. For this he should be sacked.

Alex, what a load of bollocks. The man is obviously a bit of an eejit so let the electorate decide at their next opportunity.

Bern wanted a conversation on the matter, Peter.
The councillor is evidently unable to have a conversation if he makes such a rude remark.
Councillors are supposed to listen to people who have a protest to make, it's part of democracy.
He showed an attitude of intolerance, and ultimately this can lead to dictatorship. But intolerance with pejorative remarks can lead to repression, in particular if directed against a group of people.
Whenever a politician shows these signs, it's necessary that voices rise from among the public opinion to counter the negative attitude and serve as a warning.
It should make politicians reflect before saying some inappropriate.
Indeed, the voters should have the chance to choose. At best his tweets were inept, but they were casually insulting to a significant minority group and I was just wondering why that was different to the recent outcomes for people accused of racism.

Possibly because the disabled have not shouted as loudly about the abuse they sometimes receive, or they are not such a fashionable cause for the politically correct do gooders.
