18:3377459Ready to roll at Frost Villas.
I tend to give them cigarettes. Kids love it and parents stop the scrounging bastards ringing my doorbell next year is the plan!
I much prefer Guy Fawkes night to this awful American import so was really pleased to see so many figures in ill fitting suits sprawled in shop doorways in Dover this afternoon.............

19:3377478Being a folky sort of person I know lots of songs and traditions went across the Atlantic and came back again after the Americans had corrupted and commercialised them. Same way, Trick or Treating is known as souling (praying for the souls of the dead) or guising (going around in disguise) in Scotland and northerly parts. We first met it in a big way visiting friends in Inverness in the early 70s before it took off here and that was scary, the locals looked bad enough in daylight anyway

19:3977480I`d like to see it all banned. Although we can say no, or not answer the door etc, there are elderly people everywhere who must surely dread this time of year. In the old days, a penny or two would get you sweets, today they want a computer game, so they`ll want more than pennies.
Tell them that I came, and no one answered.

19:4477483I agree - we can tell people nicely to push off, but many others are scared. Kids are not satisfied today with a smile and a couple of bob. Sadly.

19:4777486Sorry, no tricks no treat! I live on the attic floor anyway. Furthermore, Halloween is a recent importation from the USA. I had enough when my can of baked beans ended up on the wall, the can in my hand, the beans everywhere! These Chinese can-openers!

20:3877510Because I chose to! I was given the offer to chose, and this is a neatly funished and wall-papered place, well out of the traffic noise, overlooking the garden.

20:4277512thanks alex
the reason i asked is that the nobility usually banish the insane to the west wing where they cannot be heard by people walking past.
relieved to know that this did not apply to you, we all know what a sensible chap you are.
