Just spent a pleasant hour in the garden with cloud cover giving respite from the crippling heat(not complaining about the heatwave I hasten to add) 30 minutes in the company of a lone wood pigeon who eyed me up and the food on the ground for about 10 minutes before deciding that I was not psychotic and landed. I found it fascinating to watch it eat and when sparrows joined in paid no attention to them. All ended as usual with a sea gull landing and chasing them all off and not even bothering to eat the stuff left over.

I'm loving it but the gardens desperately need some rain.

Apart from the plants desperately needing the water I am looking forward to some rain to generally freshen things up and wash away all the bird s**t plus it will refill my water butt.

Saw a chap earlier with his toddler son in a buggy with no top on, the lad had ginger hair which normally means that the sun is more damaging than to dark haired people and he didn't even have a hat on.

A lot cooler this evening and have no complaints, hotter the better for me during the day but sleeping has been difficult lately for a lot of people. Would be nice for some precipitation to happen soon at night and then clear up by morning.

I have just looked at the Met Office and they forecast rain this morning, we can but hope.

The straw has a made a minor watering, better than nothing though. There are concerns for our butterfly population as the greenery that caterpillars munch on will die off if the drought continues.

All that little bit of rain did was make my car dirtier!

Not about rain at all, of course, but an opportunity for me to shoe-horn in something by the great, but under-appreciated, Fred Neil (Everybody's Talkin', Dolphins):

As a heads up, a trusted source has forecast a possible mega-heatwave in early August with temperatures pushing 35 degrees. No end in sight either way and this week just gets hotter.

The Met office has issued an amber alert telling us to stay out of the sun until the end of the week.

After an oppressive day I spent a lovely hour or more in the cool of the garden this evening, had a pair of Wood Pigeons as company for a while until a Herring Gull chased them off for no particular reason.
