14:0870876I was one of the last two Conservatives to stand for Barton ward, beaten by Ken by only twenty some votes (and with a swing from Labour that would have seen William Hague as PM if it had happened at the next General Election) - I've always thought that the then Labour controlled DDC put forward Barton to the electoral commission as one to be divided as they thought it would go blue again at the next election.

You were critical of the 18 labour cllrs who were unapposed and your reason for getting involved and helping to form the Indy party.
Now thats fine, and I applsaud and encourage lots of candidates.
In exactly the same method Mr Drew also DIDN'T go through any election.
So I presume that's ok though because he was an Indy?

00:1771059Keith what is it you don't understand? I have never accused Labour of being fully co-opted, unelected, or anything like that. My motivations for standing as an Independent were twofold:
1. There was no elected opposition to Labour at DTC level.
2. The DTC body at that time was preparing to waste £10,000 of taxpayers money on a clock. No provision for futre maintenance had been made. Plus, a huge amount of tax payers money, about £140k as I recall, had been spent on "entertaining". The Labour group at DDc had spent over £100k of tax payers money on "bus shelters" for the district, again with no provision for ongoing maintenance.
So, those were my motivators. I don't blame Labour councilors for having no opposition, as I said earlier, it's not the councillors fault if no-one stands against them. I just determined to try and do something about it.
I failed to get elected but at least I tried and like to think I was of some help to the other independants who came forward to have go as well.

I was only having one large home cooked evening meal per day plus about 2 pints of cider and half bottle of Rose.Scrapped the booze.
now brekkie = fresh fruit and a large dollop of pills
lunch = soup or sarnie + pills
dinner = pasta and sauce home made + 3 pills
no snacks just black tea and water
