It's no good blaming anyone they would gain more credibility with just getting on with the job in hand without continually laying everything at the previous governments door.

Well Keith and Marek I can fully understand how embarrassed you must be to be constantly reminded of just how incompetent the government you supported was.
The point is we are in very dire straights economically, so it is only right that people should be reminded of the reasons we are in this state. This is important background to the struggle going on to revive the economy and the very difficult decisions required. So yes, I am afraid you have to brace yourselves because the public will be constantly reminded at least until the measures are successful and we can see solid improvement.
After all.... even after 13 years of Labour rule your lot kept saying that everything was the fault of Mrs T (with far less reason) despite the fact that she left office over 20 years earlier...

BAZ;
You will find that we are far more constructive than that
recognising past problems
but moving on trying to encourage others look forward and sort problems
not leave us in the lurch swanning off on hols.
anyway lets hope when our leaders eventually return we can get back to get this country back on its feet and not playing games with peoples lives and blaming others

Ah well with all his apparent hyperactivity at every bit of news Brown made on hell of a mess of things so perhaps there is a great deal to say for a calmer more laid back approach. Politicians and governments are more often than not the problem, not the solution.
I hope that DC and GO enjoy their holiday, relax and do not spend too much time on their laptops and Blackberries, as I know only too well from my job that can be counter productive in a crisis.

i dont fully disagree with you

As it is now painfully obvious``We are not all in this together`` perhaps Osbourne should consider an offer from our Billionaires/millionaires to pay higher tax.
The French and American Billionaires/millionaries are doing just that.Warren Buffett US Billionaire has requested Congress to `make things equal`by making higher taxes being imposed on them.
In France there is a similar call plus to make sure we are all really in this together there is a demand that a proper fiscal system is now installed to ease the general public burden.
However Mr Osbourne is thinking aloud about reducing the `tax burden` on our super rich. Our rich have always had little trouble in avoiding this obligation.
It is a long time since a UK Government Cabinet/minister has offered,as indeed Baldwin did, to donate a fifth of their personal wealth to the exchequer when in austere times.
Which of our Cabinet or politicians is going to volunteer?

i saw that earlier about the french hitting the top earners, whilst george and chums want to cut their tax.
will be interesting to see who is right.

It will be difficult to know who is right Howard, because much of the decision-making process is based on supposition.
If you had a 100 financial experts in a room and you asked them a question, perhaps about increasing or decreasing the taxes on the rich and what would be the benefit to the exchequer, you'd get 100 different answers.

Reg you are correct that various extremely wealthy Americans have suggested that they pay more in tax than they do now.
Some have even suggested that they pay the SAME rate of tax on their wages as ordinary working people.
Not one has suggested they pay MORE than ordinary working people do
Not one has suggested that they pay increased taxes on their unearned income
Yes French high earners will pay an additional 3% income tax on earnings above €500,000
What none of you point out is the tax break ordinary workers get on overtime payments is being capped - so they will now be taxed more.
I am sure we can now all join the dots ...

Warren Buffet who has helped prop up the Bank of America by putting £3 billion of his own money into it has already made a massive profit of £860 million...fortune favours the brave..

Keith ...........You really must Stop........Thinking of....Caring for .............being concerned about........the millions of
general public who are already paying over and above their fair share and soon to pay more.
Osbourne has a clear brief to look after the rich, super rich and his Cabinet friends to enable them to buy a crust.
Economic growth stagnant again.Double Dip? UK a safe haven? Plan B for jobs and growth.

So what do you suggest?
Or is your barrel only full of rhetoric and snippy comment?
P.S. I think GO is an over privileged, out of touch careerist like the vast majority of politicians on all sides of the house,
P.S. I have suggested alternatives such as flat rate taxation etc.

Dirty tricks claims turn the spotlight on the man who helped bring Andy Coulson to Downing Street
By Cahal Milmo
A former dominatrix was targeted by the News of the World's phone hacker Glenn Mulcaire in a tabloid scramble to publish a picture of her posing with George Osborne in front of an alleged line of cocaine, The Independent can reveal.
Natalie Rowe, 47, a former madam who supplied prostitutes to a moneyed clientele, has been shown documents by Scotland Yard detectives showing that the hacker obtained details of her mobile phone number and information about at least one of Mr Osborne's circle of close friends, as newspapers investigated claims of drug use at the height of David Cameron's Conservative leadership bid in 2005.
The heavily redacted document raises the possibility that the mobile phone of the Chancellor of the Exchequer, who was managing Mr Cameron's successful campaign to lead the Tory Party, was also targeted by Glenn Mulcaire and raises fresh questions about Mr Osborne's relationship with Andy Coulson.
