Barry is right about finances - he needs to be as his livelihood depends on him having in-depth knowledge.
Those who don't know, mock as it's the easy way out.

Is there a correlation between Flashman being in denial about the real Coulson situation.....and.....Osbourne being in denial about the real Economic situation?
Is it possible the biggest `U` turn of this Coalition Government is Looming?

You wish Keith...
Lets cut through the crap.
1/ The figure for growth at 0.2% while lacklustre was better than some independent commentators forecast only two weeks ago. Some were saying GDP would fall.
2/ Recovery from the recession is actually following the normal path of other recessions where recovery is patchy and rocky at first and given Labour's recession was the longest and deepest for over 80 years added to the international situation this recovery will inevitably be rockier than normal.
3/ Over 500,000 private sector jobs have been created over the last year - you may have not seen that news as it is good so not widely reported. This means the necessary rebalancing of the economy is happening.
To hear that complete dunderhead Ed Balls (a great word and the politest description I can think of for him) speak you would think that all would be rosy if Osborne started spending more and running up even more debt. The facts are different. You do not solve a deficit and debt problem by borrowing yet more, that is like pouring petrol on a burning house.
A few facts about how 'tough' Osborne is being:
It will take the UK 35 months to halve the deficit (that is just to halve the amount being overspent remember...) Compared to: 23 months for Germany, Finland and Greece and 10 months for Ireland.
At best Osborne will just get public spending back to the same level as 2005, the point at which Brown went into 'structural deficit' territory.
Obama plans to cut public spending in the USA by 3.8% in two years - that is being critisised as insufficient there.
Dennis Healey the Labour Chancellor cut British public spending by 3.9% over two years in 1977 and 1978.
Osborne's so called tough regime is only cutting it 3.4% over 5 years.
So much for too deep to quickly.
If Osborne is going wrong it is that he is not cutting enough, his actions are not living up to his rhetoric. He needs to really get tough and start slashing public spending a lot more. Then he needs to cut that to rate of tax, one of the highest in Europe, only Sweden and Denmark are higher. he needs also to speed up his cuts to business taxation and to slash the red tape.
Reg - anyone who stoops to quote the dunderhead is really desperate. Balls has no credability, he was one of the guilty men who got us into this mess. You need only to watch him on Paxman to understand how he got us to this state.

LOL Reg - its the way you tell 'em.
You speak as if the Labour government was not best pals with Murdoch and Brooks ( a very regular visitor to no 10, at least half a dozen times a year, during Blair's and Brown's time).
This is indeed the longest and deepest recession we have had - such is the poor management under Labour's watch that got us here and the appalling legacy that is left us.
I know you want to whitewash the past Reg and try to assign blame to the present government but people do not have that short memories and are not that daft.

See second to last para in post 65 Howard. I have also posted about generating growth elsewhere including on my blog before. Noticed I made a typo on the post with 'to' when I meant 'top' referring to tax rates.

Reg: Hacking was though - it was actually going on when Murdoch and Brooks were cosying up to Blair.

Hacking is not the issue.
BSkyB is a Political issue.
Hacking is a Police issue.
Recent postings have remarked BSkyB was `small beer` and a `small decision` for Flashman to deal with ????
BSkyB issue stopped Murdochs control of all British Politicians.........A Major issue!!!

It is small beer and one for the relevant Minister to decide not the PM. No suggestion has been made of anything improper being done by Jeremy Hunt over BSkyB.
You do love the hyperbole. I assume you are referring to the control he had over Blair and Brown.

BSkyB ownership is a big deal indeed. The opportunity to control the majority of the way the public receives its information? Of course it is a big deal!!

As Old Osborne is staying with his family at £1,000 a night hotel in Beverly Hills and DC is sat in the sun sipping Latte they must both be worried sick how they are going to meet their leccy and food bills when the get back to Blighty. It's alright for some.
So while the stock market plummets, the US credit rating crumbles and their tory mates in the City panic about the eurozone crisis, they are both thousands of miles away living it up. Thank God we are all in it together.

I think therefore I am (not a Tory supporter)

Everybody is entitled to a holiday Marek - I certainly hope you are enjoying your long sun soaked time in your tax haven....
Now why is it that you think that only 'tory mates' in the City are in panic? The situation is a concern to everyone who wants to keep their job and put food on their plates.
