Suppose Boris suddenly hung up his mayoral chain and stood for Eastleigh? He'd win hands down and would remain a backbencher for........a week or so. Actually he would not have to resign as mayor, he would just lose two-thirds of his mayoral salary if elected to the HoC.

fantasy land peter, barry and myself are right on this(not sure which one of us is most annoyed) getting shot of a prime minister less than 3 years into his term would smack of panic to the electorate.
besides the blues would probably lose control of london if boris stood down and he would have to stand down as the mayoral job is a full time one.

Isn't it amazing eh? We're in the middle, or possibly just the beginning, of the most serious economic times to affect our country. Education sucks bad, Wind farms everywhere, energy costs rising because of this and other stupid green measures, industry collapsing, no hope, no future.
And yet the house of commons was absolutely packed to the rafters last night for what many see as a purely trivial matter.
Whenever really important decisions need to be discussed invariably only four members turn up.
And they call this democracy?
Another reason not to vote for anyone next time round.
It's all about as funny as watching Sarah Millican.
