emotional stuff from the new president rattling on about representing all the people of france, thankfully he pulled back from "we are all in it together".
the multitudes in his power base loved it, reminded me of that scene in the "life of brian"
not totally comfortable with the salute here.
on a serious note i wish him well in his endeavours, sarkozy was a major player on the world stage so he will need to work very hard to do likewise.

If France are not for austerity and just spend spend spend, like most socialist Governments, then it could hail the end of the Euro and the EU.
With the European Union having tight controls over what the collective Governments can do, it will be (more) interesting times we are entering.

Yes indeed , the bruising battle is over at last, it has been a long haul and there is blood on the French carpet..but the socialists have emerged triumphant on a non-austerity ticket. Things get interesting from here. Hollande is a very bright and highly educated man and clearly has an excellent team around him, so if he has a plan it may well work. Austerity and growth are not happy bedfellows and were not happy bedfellows under Sarkozy, nor are they under Cameron here. We see no growth. Experts see no immediate prospect of growth either.
In the end the gap between the two wasnt huge but Sarkozy has had his chips, and his time is now over. I believe he is stepping down as leader of his party too...so he may be calling it a day.
The crowds were fantastic all through the campagning, huge crowds, masses of colourful flags, great enthusiasm. Electioneering is clearly a different animal in France with 80% of then population engaging themselves in the process...much much different than here on this side of the channel.
Francois Hollande is going to need a lot of luck as well as wisdom but we can only wish him well.

# 87.Not only is there little immediate prospect of economic UK growth under this Coalition the UK unemployment according
to the Centre for Economic and Business Research ( CEBR ) state could hit 10.7% by 2016 which equates to 3.7 Million UK
unemployment at the time of the next UK election.

Great pix of Hollande above there, Howard
I love the French population's enthusiasm, they throw themselves into campaigning and they do it very well

Good luck to Francois 'The People's Choice'
I think Dave is feeding the lazy Downing Street Fat Cat far too much foie gras not to mention that extra thick double cream, can't be good for him

they are certainly different to us colette, it was like a carnival in tulle(never heard of the place until yesterday).
over here we just vote for the party we dislike the least in a casual way and most don't even stay up to hear the results.

Mmmmm. Might the enthusiasm be for the election of a head of state?
