  This little Hovercraft went whizzing by yesterday. It didnt stop in the true home of the hovercraft but went right on by...oh the indignity of it all..!!sniff...
  
  I saw it at the last minute and its a fair way out and no its not even a cruise ship, but worth showing. Snatched it through the gantrys in the harbour....
  
  

  

  
  
  Unfortunately the pic has a harbour lighting pole sticking up right in the wrong place and at the wrong time...so I had a stab at airbrushing the offending item out and zooming it in a wee bit.
  
  

  

  
  
  Nice machine..was giving it some welly!
  
  Our much photographed friend The Braemer is ambling across the harbour in gentle fashion as i write.

  I don't know very much about these things but an AIS track showed a high speed craft passing the port just after 15:00 on Thursday bearing the identification H-08. I suspect it to be a Griffon, which are produce by Griffon Hoverwork Ltd of Southampton. The absence of a name would indicate either a foreign military vessel and/or a new-build being delivered.

  Well we have a few more cruise ships to look forward to this week starting with the Artania tomorrow Poc and also the Costa NeoRomantica PoC.
  
  Then on Tuesday 11th September we have the Sapphire TR and the AIDAMar PoC.
  
  On Wednesday we see the Black Watch, TR, return from its short cruise and the Marina, TR, last seen here on June18th.
  
  No ships on Thursday, Friday or Saturday but on Sunday we see the Seven Seas Voyager TR, last seen here on June 3rd.
  
  Monday 17th September brings the Albatros, PoC, back to Dover which was last in here way back on April 28, and on Tuesday, the AIDAMar again, PoC.
  
  Wednesday 19th we have the Astor which I think we last saw in September 2010 and the Mv Empress which to my knowledge is a new visitor for us, both of which are PoC.
  
  No ships on Thursday or Friday this week but on Saturday 22nd September we have the ever faithful Braemar TR, and the Seabourne Pride TR. No ship on the Sunday 23rd.
  
  So quite a few ships visiting Dover over the coming two weeks

  Had a fascinating press release just in from DHB re cruise calls next year...now on the frontpage.
  Many thanks to them, good to have the info coming through. It's a good positive read.
  
  "There are already 148 cruise calls booked for 2013 including eight first time visits to the iconic port. "
  say DHB.

  Back in today is the AIDA Mar. The German company AIDA are showing real committment to the Port as they are back here again next year and even expanding their operation..see frontpage story.

  Just seen the DHB new press release on our front page, terrific news about the abundance of cruise calls next year
  
  It's great to see that NCL and Carnival are returning next year and it's fascinating that the Hapag Lloyd's Christopher Columbus 2 is making its debut here, can't wait to see that one.
  
  I will certainly make a trip on one of the four day city tours to Amsterdam and Hamburg on the brand new AIDAstella ship, great news all round

  148 cruise ships booked shows there is still confidence in dover despite the strong opposition from southampton.

  The Empress has been here before, but only in the past couple of years. Below is a picture of her in 2010.
  
  Also, the DHB website indicates that in 2013 Hapag-Lloyd's Columbus 2 is making her debut visit to Dover. Not strictly true - because while we will see her for the first time under the Hapag-Lloyd flag, she is more familiar to us as the Insignia when operated by Oceania Cruises. In fact she is still owned by Oceania and is currently on a short charter to Hapag. Originally she was a Renaissance ship, the same familiar design as others we've seen like the Regatta, Tahitian Princess/Ocean Princess, Nautica, Minerva 2/Royal Princess and Azamara Journey.

  Today the fast pace of the Port goes on in unrelenting mode...as per Colette's schedule earlier, the Black Watch pictured in post 528 has returned after its short cruise. But also in, the large and sleek Marina is back with us again. Here is a picture taken at around 6.30am just as the early sun broke through...

  The AIDA Mar was a total blaze of a million lights for most of last night here in the harbour..it didnt go out til late and looking terrific as it did so. Great to think this company is increasing its operations here next year.

  Good to hear that we have many of the cruise ships returning next year, and also that there is an increase in the calls made, they certainly make a magnificent sight when berthed in the harbour.
  
  And we have been treated to a wonderful set of pictures, guys over the summer period thank you.

  M.V. just stands for Motor Vessel, Colette, which is what the majority of the cruise ships are.
