Would an Art Gallery be an art gallery without the art, a train station be a train station without the trains? As it stands the only use to which the shelter is put is as an outlet for pent-up rage. At least as such it is of use to a wide range of the local angst-ridden.

Don't think it is pent-up rage Tom, just simple vandalism - when it occurs.

Thanks Tom for that link.
Seems like the Barbarians were another name for the vandals.

Barbarian, if memory serves, were all those in the Greek world that were not Greek.
In any case one should attempt not to confuse cause with consequence.

Splendid Phil.
I see that the decorative fringe extends around the back, so the damaged portions at the front could readily be replaced as soon as the refurbishment gets serious, bench and all.

Keeping my fingers crossed but on this subject I am not an optimist, nearly forgot to add it looks great.

Yes it does look very good, years ago in the 1950s I used that to kiss my girl in.Anyway it might have to be moved in the end, just the times we are living in,And I would put it in the Castle where it can be used as a bus stop again, and we would know it would be looked after,And 1000s of the public would see it.

Richard (Moffatt) is going to ask Property Services if he can make those bits that are missing - hope you are given that permission Richard.

Not a bad idea Vic-but what about when the trams return-that could be in the times we are living.

I hope the council officers accept his offer in the spirit in which it was made, and don't suddenly start poring over the rule book to find a reason why not.

Roger-Will be contacting them over the next couple of weeks to see what can be done-the existing ones appear to be made from steel (as evidenced by some of the fascia pieces being bent) and riveted into position. As the fixing point is covered by the guttering I believe we could get away with bolting-what do you think Vic?

Peter you can be sure we'll need a working drawing, risk assessment, method statement, material spec , insurance and the inevitable numerous site meetings. Probably the least contentious way of doing this is for me to make the pieces and a reliable DDC contractor to fit them!

If you could make them Richard, I doubt if anyone official would notice that they had been fitted. Good Luck with it and hope that you don't get tied up in red-tape.

much as the shelter would be safe and admired by many at the castle, i don't like the thought of english heritage benefitting from it.
