I do not think it would be any safer in Connaught Park than where it is, the Transport Museum seems the obvious place although I like the idea of putting it near the horse trough in Market Square.
Fit benches and it would make a nice shelter for the drunks who might be a good deterrent against the vandals, depends which group of misfits you think are preferable.

I try to be neutral and polite but it is hard and getting even more difficult at times.

A very good place would be the pine gardens at the bay,put seats in it as you walk round, there is only a few seats to sit on and none under cover we spend time in there lots or room and it would not look out of place if put in the right spot.

If you knew anything about the ward(that I live, and worked in) you would know.
unfortunately you don't so don't have the info
that's why I support the need for cllrs only being voted for if they live or work in the ward

So infact you did not stop the shelter from being moved as you said you did.or maybe I have missed read what you wrote and if I did then sorry for that. But you did say you stoped it from being moved, would you like to tell us how you done that? because it looks like your service is needed again.I know you was a ward cllr years ago ,so was I but only on the town parish council and in your ward aswell, but you know that anyway.

i wasn't aware that there had ever been a clamour to get it moved, vandalism has only been a recent phenomenon.

I do not think there has been,I have said it like others on the forum it should be moved, but do not know if any councils Town or District think the same way,at this time they seem happy just paying out to have it repaired.

Like the SECRET pulling down of Brooke House, officers of councils work in a very secretive way.
I learnt from a constituent that the shelter was to be moved(at that time to the museum) and a council officer was making the plans to do so.
Thankfully I got to know which officer it was and mounted a local campaign, soon after this plan was dropped.
Of course the momentum of locals against such a plan often works

This is sad - very sad indeed.
There was supposed to be a camera fitted locally (not to a neighbour's house as I suggested, but somewhere else). It obviously hasn't made a blind bit of difference.
I'll talk to property services (again), but not sure now what the answer is; I don't want it moved, but there must come a point when the Council will say "we've spent so many thousands on this and it still hasn't stopped the vandalism, so what now ?"

The what now, I suggested some time ago(and volunteered to all the wards politicians)
We need to up the anti.
Go into schools, get the camera, raise awareness etc
The problem won't fix itself
