One of these days I'll go and visit the war memorial in Buckland Parish Church.
Good to know the church is still standing and hasn't been "converted".
Well done, Kath

You are, obviously, never far from an Excise man in Dover.

Ignorance is bliss, bliss is happiness, I am happy...to draw your attention to the possible connectivity in the foregoing.

The Knocker family were well known in Dover, related by marriage to the Mowlls, all solicitors, ie. Knocker, Bradley & Pain. Now called Bradleys.

No, I was wrong (must be a first), Liverpool Street was further south. It was more or less along the line of PaulB's residence! This is the best I can find from the 30's.
Going back to solicitors, there was a great amalgamation during the 60's, 70's and 80's.
Lamberts were formed from Knocker, Bradley and Pain, which previously was Bradley, Chitty and Scorer.
I forget the chronology but Knocker, Elwin and Lambert is also in there somewhere.

Incidentaly, Roger Pain arranged the probate when my father died in 1968. You can still see Roger Pain riding his racing bike in the town and he always says hello!
