re; dog muzzling.
when i was a kid over 10 years ago people just let their dog out for a walk and let it in again when it got back but their was never any muzzling, i wonder when they brought that law in and when they rescinded it.
it seems that there was a percentage of dog owners then as now who simply do what they like.

In Grimsby, trawlermen's wives used to remove the aspidistra from their front window to signify that the man of the house was at sea, for the same reason no doubt.
Yes, definitely dog muzzling, would be a lot safer, and compulsory micro-chipping of dogs (and cats where possible).

Kath's post no. 11 reminded me of this old scanned print of a shop sign I saw in Castle St. a few years ago, taken when the sign of the then current tenants was being replaced. It's not the same shop as the one in Kath's post - this one is immediately opposite to the entrance to Russell St. I haven't checked in Kelly's Directory so have no idea when this business was running.

Do you by any chance had the DE of the 26th July 1914? There are a couple of images of the installation of the Lord Warden at the Bredenstone at the Drop Redoubt I'd like to get copies of. One shows Earl Beauchamp inspecting the Sussex Regiment on the terreplein, and two more show the Grand Court of Shepway. Historical photos of the Drop are literally like hen's teeth.

Thank you for the fascinating articles Kath , are they from your private collection or do you have access to an internet archive ? I love reading them ,especially about the shops and buisineses that used to be in Dover

Sarah - they are from some original newspapers we salvaged from a Dover cellar about 35 years ago, many of the other Dover papers went to the Library (in store I think), some to Folkestone library, etc.
but we still have a few volumes of our own. We have two or three volumes of early Kentish Gazettes, 1790s, which are fascinating.
