Sue sounds a bit miffed at not being invited to have her picture taken.
A positive reply from Town Councillor Chris.

all i know is what i have read on the "dover community garden" thread on facebook.
i suppose with it being august the local press are looking for any photocalls to cover any lack of real news.

Yes I am a (District) Councillor, but no, I am not negative about Dover or helping with initiatives to move the Town forward.
I just can't believe that people can get so enthusiastic about an idea (that's all it is at the moment) that involves some one else's land and that land-owner is supposed to lay all before them and give the land for free when that land is already used.
It's being practical, not negative. As I said in an earlier posting, this should not have been publicised/seen the light of day, until certain things had been determined and agreed (or not).

Howard, I'd say a community initiative is real news with real Dover people making an effort to do something in their home town. Thought you chaps wanted positive stuff?

we do indeed kath, i was simply pointing out that there is a bit of over enthusiasm here.
if and when the district council agree to hand over the land then it is a news story, until then nothing big.

agreed but I understand there are talks between town and district on this. it's news because public meetings are being held and support is being asked for to make this plan happen. They know they have to put in the work and a garden isn't going to appear tomorrow (now that would be news!!)
Of course it's news!! Proper Dover-based Local news! Good on the local press for supporting it - that is what the local press is for........

So far the idea is in place and the two most important factors for a successful outcome, enthusiasm and drive, have been evidenced in abundance. There is no question of DDC 'handing over' the land, rather they would be allowing its use. The land will still be there for the use of the Discovery Centre and other community uses but it would also be far more attractive, as well as being educational and therapeutic for visitors and volunteers alike.
This afternoon there is an open meeting in the Town Council offices (Maison Dieu House - next to the Town Hall and behind the War Memorial) between 4 and 5 pm. All interested parties, especially those who would like to be involved and help move the town forward should try and be there.
Politics, it seems to me, for years, or all too long, has been concerned with right or left instead of right or wrong.

Enthusiasm and Drive - a lovely couple who have sadly been a bit absent from Dover for a while. It is good to have them back - and the opportunity to encourage them to hang around for a while. See you there!

On a slight tangent, but sort of linked: has anyone seen the state of things round the back of The Castle pub/Images/Dolphin Lane/St James's Street recently? A town centre location, and an absolute disgrace. I bet Tripoli looks better.

a couple of weeks back i took these shots from russel street car park to see what a first time visitor to dover would espy.
would be better if we asked all motorists to park facing the opposite direction.
Lovely isn't it
Try a photograph looking across as you are about to go under the underpass from the Seafront......
Beggars belief..................
It's a real disgrace, and it isn't as if they haven't had time to sort it! What are our reps doing for goodness sake?!
