Some(well one) posters don't appear to grasp that the Queen is recognised as the head of the church of England.
Whilst one may not agree with this, up to today this still is fact.
The question of whether or not we support a royal family is different to that of is the queen the head of the church.
The situation isn't going to change, so maybe it's time to recognise this fact.

The English Church was founded in Canterbury by King Ethelbert who converted to the Christian Faith through his Frankish wife Bertha, Queen of Kent through marriage.
The queen derives her title from Henry VIII who knocked down many English churches and priories.
Christ Church in Folkestone Road was knocked down under the queen.
Just opposite stands the priory to Saint Mary and Saint Martin demolished under Henry VIII.
Sorry, Keith.

It's not clear what Keith is trying to point out, he keeps obsessively repeating the same phrase, even though it's common knowledge Mrs. Windsor received a title from Henry VIII.
But she didn't receive it from King Ethelbert who lived 1,000 years before Henry VIII.
In fact this is getting interesting, Keith has an obsession with the queen being head of the Church of England.
Perhaps Keith is trying to eradicate 1,000 years of English history.
Brain-scrubbing?
Typical commissar mentality.
He's also posting this under politics politics politics etc. (see relevant thread)

surely it was henry the eighth that started the church of england and ethelbert just started the church in england - two different things?

Certainly, Howard, two different developments.
The Church of England recognises Canterbury as the seat of the English Church, and Canterbury and York as the two Diocese seats.
Canterbury was the capital of Kent where King Ethelbert founded the English Church, York the capital of Northumbria where, around 50 years later, King Oswald of Northumbria called over Celtic missionaries from the Scottish Isle of Iona to found the Norothumbrian Church.
Clearly Henry VIII is not the founder of the English Church.

Totally agree. Our queen - Elizabeth 2nd is the recognised head of the country and the church of England - as will be any future monarch. Whatever Alex or anyone else says nothing will change that so argument over surely?
There's always a little truth behind every "Just kidding", a little emotion behind every "I don't care" and a little pain behind every "I'm ok".

Why is she ? Its only by the fact that she was born to the right parents that makes her the queen, us, her 'subjects' have no say in the matter at all. I never asked for her and I don't want her, and she is the head of an outdated religion that I also don't want, but I don't get a choice in that either. Put it to the people.

Jacqui
You join the long band of forumites(including alexander) that agrees that our Queen is the head of the church of England.
Barrie; whether or not this should be the case is another debate.
Shes there, and I don't see a ground swell of public opinion wanting change

Keith, post 17, you do take a foaming-mouth approach here. The queen is acclaimed the head of the C/E, not recognised as such by me.
The C/E Christ Church in Dover was knocked down under the queen, so I don't see how she can be the head of the Church of Christ in England. Here in Dover, the queen did not stand up for the Church she claimed to be the head of.
Use or lose, Keith!
