18:0269537I know it is only going as far as Bridge Street and I think it starts at 4.00pm from in town somewhere.
As the shop is not bothering with the carnival this year I have not taken much interest in it.

19:3969573Dover Athletic are not putting a float in this year, because we heard it was going to be on the Saturday in August when we would have been playing it was a no go for us!

12:1169728Difficult to know what to do now. After a couple of false alarm dates with myself believing the carnival was going to be on the first Saturday in July as it normally is & then Saturday 28th August. I went ahead & booked a band for the second date but that turned into a waste of money. Initially we were going to be entering a float ourselves but with so much confusion about the dates we've ended up not bothering.
I do hope there is a good turnout with enough floats to make it a proud event though & maybe we'll see some of you in The White Horse afterwards for drinks

I know a million ways to always pick the wrong thing to say

3pm is the church service at Charlton church for battle of Britain BTW.

07:3670046Well..the carnival is on today and we will endeavour to get a picture or two. As is clear from the posts and from chatting to people generally, the whole idea seems to have gone more than a little flat for this year, what with summer being over and whathaveoyu. The Deal people have temporarily taken over and are now running things so good luck to them for today. The weather is okay. The original management seems to have been bypassed according to what we read in the papers.
It will be on a shorter route starting from Russell St Car Park as mentioned in the post above, much wiser, as the resources were too thin to cover the long route in my view, and this might give it the amphitheatre feel especially if its to be a smaller parade, which will benefit the uplifting experience.
Good luck to all. Bravely Big Dave has offered his new gazebo as a tempter to the passing wayfarer...

07:4170049Alot of people like getting out on a Sunday these days Paul, so maybe it could surprise us all and get a good turnout considering the short notice. I hope it goes well for all concerned.
Tell them that I came, and no one answered.

07:3070204Very small if indeed tiny carnival, lasting all of six minutes. However the kids tried their best. Will have pictures and report on frontpage before too long, later this morning I expect.

07:4070207Sad and regrettable. Sometimes, despite optimism and a sunny disposition, Dover seems to be shrivelling. Not the case, I am sure, but things like this can undermine the rest.

07:4170209Having helped out as a steward on the Carnival we have to thank the people from Deal as I understand it,they put in together in 2 weeks, there is a lot of politics in the carnival at the moment.Needless to say it involves money, and even meant that the poor Dover girls had to walk as there was no float.
Yes it was disappointing and as I said I am not getting involved in the ins and outs of it,but it went ahead yes it was disappointing but well done to all those who turned up and helped.
If you knew what I know,we would both be in trouble!

Your as ever the diplomat, I thnk that those that made the effort should be congratulated, It looks like the carnival(s) have there own internal issues which hopefully they can get Ironed out before next years event.

10:4070252I hope that by next year the appropriate bodies have sorted themselves out, this year was a complete shambles. The main problem being no one seemed to know what was happening.
In my opinion it would have been better to cancel the carnival this year, I think that Sunday teatime in September was completely wrong.
