From what I have read and seen on TV the camp was a disaster waiting to happen, the authorities should have done something about it ages ago before it got so big.

I try to be neutral and polite but it is hard and getting even more difficult at times.

Heard on Radio Kent that 250 migrants have been removed from a camp in Teteghem and taken to reception centres elsewhere. The Mayor has said that they cannot cope with the influx any longer.

...........Written after a meal of 'magic' mushrooms!
Throughout Dover town the rumours are spinning,
The Burlington's being rebuilt and the Dover Stage too,
The town council has announced the forthcoming twinning,
With the 'jungle' at Calais to built friendships anew.
A committee is being chosen from Aycliffe to manage,
A great party to welcome our neighbours so swell,
A supposititious leader will arrive in a flash carriage,
To ensure it's success making rash promises as well.
With a crew to be led by a most modest person from River,
The docks will be speedily developed with free access for all,
A magical grand opening by a band with drums and a Zither.
With no backhanders in sight we'll all have a ball!
There'll be no need for our new friends to stowaway now,
A warm welcome to the UK for those who seek a good life,
Fly to Manston, away from the turbulent sea and their Dhows,
Welcome the new home seekers here, the world and his wife!
Soon the advance party arrived on a freezing wet day,
With hopes soaring high and their clothes in a sack,
Driven towards flag waving crowds waiting in Jubilee Way,
Then were marooned for a month in operation stack!
When they reached Dover town, the party had finished,
The town was deserted too, no planned progress in sight,
Dismayed by the sad vista, zest for a new life diminished,
They boarded Eurostar for Calais to hasten their flight!
Back in the 'jungle' they passed on the sad news,
And everyone said, "we've had a lucky escape,
We'll all return home to the places we knew,
No future here so back to our roots our families we'll take."
Do nothing and nothing happens.

Three weeks ago I was part of a convoy entering the Tunnel site in Sandgatte that was attacked by the massed battalions of illegals living in Calais including missiles that included petrol bombs. Last night entering Calais port I was following a truck when missiles including a shopping trolley fully loaded with heavy objects was launched onto the truck from a bridge. Luckily the immigrants timing was but a second out and all the missiles hit below the windscreen causing massive damage to the truck.
The French police were once again amazing and after asking me to follow them very slowly were able to clear the route in safety. I can only say that despite the tremendous effort of the French police to protect us it is only a matter of time before a truck driver is seriously injured or dare I say it, killed. This is not scaremongering it is fact bearing in mind an iron bar was thrown from the self same bridge recently embedding itself in the passenger seat.

Time to consider retirement Ken? Scenes like the wild west are bad enough when one is still young. Interesting to read your comments about the French police as the general view is that they stand back and do nothing when things kick off.

Howard I am retired and spend my retirement like any other 72 year old. 20 days a month touring Europe in a truck, several days as the handyman at The Riverside Centre, building a utility room at home and taking the grandchildren out. Whatever made you think I wasn't retired?

La Voix du Nord has just reported that from Jan 2016 all Calais municipal police will carry firearms.

Surprised this hasn't happened before now, not only are some the migrants carrying weapons but there are some serious British criminals involved in both Calais and Dunkirk.

More details coming out. It won't happen until October at the earliest (why?) and only 21 guns are on order, all .38 pistols.

Difficult to know what the answer is but building a new facility must send out the wrong message.

I doubt there was any plan to get terrorists into the country this way but as time has gone on this is probably the safest place for a few to hide out.

Just hearing that a church and mosque in the "Jungle" have been demolished this morning, Councillor Rix has an alibi though.
