The original request has thankfully been expanded by DTC in their pre-planning request on the siting of the flag from just being behind the statue in the gardens to maybe next to the memorial garden. The issue regarding politics should be separated from this altogether as the constant dragging in of it just keeps muddying the water. It is easy just to moan about the establishment and how things are not done. But at the end of the day they have been elected and you will always have the mixture of support and criticism in what ever they do. And as so often pointed out there are elections so people can make their view known then, without having to be personally dragged though FB.

People fail to listen to each other and agree or come up with a joint proposal/plan that satisfies the majority in this matter. Before the petition is flung down as the majority view there is already some issue with that (its original wording vs actual proposal and what people thought it meant regarding town hall flag). And if you are being immoveable regarding a proposal you can't expect people to sympathise with that view as there has to be some sort of leeway in most things.

My comment regarding Facebook (FB) and point scoring was only aimed at one side as sadly I only really see the real nasty stuff come from that as it often self feeds. If there is going to be some progress then comments have to be factual and the full quotes used in their intended context.

Some constructive form of engagement needs to happen, not just a show of opportunity or digression or even self satisfying.
As this issue will just keep getting poisonous until (if it hasn't happened already) it wont be able to be resolved.

Referring to the comment " there is no need for a witch hunt " someone by the name of Louis or Louise Brevio made a gesture on the profile of one of our Committee members yesterday. She was extremely upset, she is a disabled lady & didn't deserve this. Had it been me I would have taken it further but she is a very quiet & unassuming lady & doesn't want too. I find this sort of behaviour appalling & do not expect to see this sort of thing levelled at her again. When we are accused of all sorts of things I would advise you to look at yourselves - you are no Angels. Having said that, I,ll refrain from any future comments or remarks on this forum as I do not wish to associate with the sort of people that would act in such a way.

Facebook seems to be the cause of so much misery and upset, the amount of trouble emanating from there is incredible. Never joined as apparently you need friends who needs enemies with friends like these

I've got to agree with you there Martin. Like most things in life, you reap what you sow and Facebook tends to have too much fertiliser which adds to the problem!

A little banter is harmless and could even be considered therapeutic but downright crass comments do nothing for the educated mind.....oops!

You don't have to read the nerdy comments some post and if it becomes too much........delete your account. A very simplistic view I know but it works. 'Out of sight, out of mind' works for most people!

As for the flag saga it's now becoming:-

Do nothing and nothing happens.
