Exactly Jan, I don't need to voice other people's opinions I have enough of my own !!! It seems Howard doesn't actually read what is said by anyone - hence his replies

goading - a verbalization that encourages you to attempt something; "the ceaseless prodding got on his nerves"
prod, prodding, spur, spurring, urging, goad, encouragement - the expression of approval and support.
Looks like he's on your side after all, young Lynn!
That swelling on his face is probably due to a large tongue in cheek! Wooden spoon comes to mind.

Do nothing and nothing happens.

You're right there Bob, the goading must stop together with the telling of porkies to advance one's case.

As I keep on asking you Howard show me the proof, you cannot keep throwing stupid accusations at us without proving it.
Howard I think you'll find that Bob is supporting me !! More proof that you don't read what is posted, & yes Bob definitely a wooden spoon being wielded. Thankyou for the " young " Lyn

OK lyn, Augusta posted a few weeks back that she had a discussion with the Mayor in August and was told the latter was too involved with the 2018 event to discuss the flag issue.
The 2018 event did not enter the public domain until mid/late October so the conversation could never have happened.

With regard to the flag I just wish all the animosity would end, all the bickering shows nobody in a good light.
With regard to the "discussion" only two people know the whole truth on that one.

Mentioned it on here before Jan, besides my name is not on the front page anymore.
You do drop yourself in it Lyn, you are now suggesting that September comes before August.

Augusta Pearson When I spoke with the mayor in June she let it slip that "big things and events" were planned for 2018. That was the reason she had no plans to spend any money on "things like flags that are not needed" Wondered what she was on about but mentioned it to Phil Hayes who had been refused entry by the clerk..the event is planned for 10/11/2018, one in 10. So for every 10 persons who returned to UK after the war they hope to have 1 person attending. All to wear a red jacket. I just wonder where all those people will eat, sleep and go to the toilet because we have been told the public toilets will be closed after the next election. Most of the million pounds in the coffers will be spent on that 1 day event, I believe. The current mayor has aspirations of going down on records and our history as having been involved "right from the start" in this all time great re-enactment of that time. That is of course if she remains in office..... so were you asked in a public consultation if you agree to bankrupt our council's coffers for the edification of Mr mayor on a 1 day event? No, thought not. Still, the charity shops will do well for red jackets.

My father up until he died a few years ago, did like many others always attended the remembrance day service in Dover, I can not remember him ever missing and he went because again like others he wanted to reflect and show his respect to the fallen and those he had served with during WW11. I also attended over the years for the same reason, "Respect" because like my father I had lost colleagues who I served with in Northern Ireland.
I know if Dad where alive today he would say he served his Country, his King and Queen and the flag but that he did not now require a flag he was proud to serve under to show respect. Respect comes from the heart and it matters not if there is a Union Flag at the memorial or not, it is a place to go to remember, to reflect and show respect to the fallen of All Nations who have served our Country in war.
For the last three years I have attended the Service at the River Church to lay a wreath there on behalf of Crabble Corn Mill, there was no flag but my thoughts were the same and so was my total respect, respect that comes from the heart inside not a flag outside.
I do think some have and are missing the point of why the War Memorial is there in the first place. Yes it may be good to see our Union Flag, a flag I was brought up proud of.at our War Memorial, but in no way do I see it as essential or disrespectful for it not to be there.
I would also just like to point out to a few of you, that those that have made the final sacrifice, did so to give us the freedom to express our point of view and respect the point of view of others.
I may disagree with what you say but I will defend to the death your right to say it. Time for some I think to calm down and respect that right.

I wonder what Emily Thornberry would make of this flag issue. She might say something like "I've Never Seen Anything Like it Before".

Well said Harry.I have been very upset at the remarks made against the Town Mayor. some comments have been unwarranted.I work with Pam at DDC ,and she is a very good Councillor.Because I have made this known unkind comments have been directed at me.I was criticised for not attending the service at River which you attended Harry.I was at Whitfield and as Chairman of the District I attend events all over the District ,that is the role.
It was interesting to see the picture in the local paper showing the Memorial in the Hamilton Road Cemetery Deal..Like You Harry when I stand at a memorial I think of the sacrifice made. The memorial and the names recalled are all that is needed.
I find it sad that Pam and myself are labeled as having "No Respect"

What a pity that comments made on here are now being read and commented on another Face Book . I believe Harry and myself are entitled to express our views .There is no need for a witch hunt.

Like it has been said, they may say about reconciliation when but all they expect is their vision and if different they will just moan and try to belittle others. Some constructive engagement would be nice, shame they can only criticise and try scoring their own points amongst themselves (FB).
Respect comes in many forms, from respecting the fallen to respecting others and their views.

True Darren, the continual point scoring seems to be detracting from the original flag request and puts no one in a good light from either side.
Part of the problem is that respect for a lot of those in power (whatever the party) in the UK seems to be at an all time low, in many cases they have bought this on themselves from the expense scandal down.
