Well said Howard.I think the flag flying high over the Town Hall says it all.Its as if it is standing guard over the Town Memorial.

Well said Brian Dixon couldn't agree more. Folkestone on TV just now- re-generation fantastic only 7 miles down the road - how ironic, you people should really be on top of this instead of keep wingeing on about the flag, just get used to the idea of a flag & move on

The only ones who easily see the flag on top of the Town Hall are the seagulls, we humans have to be on a suitable hill or walk round with our noses skywards.
What a shame this subject is not done and dusted by now rather than dragging on and on, maybe it is being used to disguise some other problems like our missing benches or closed toilets.

Exactly Jan totally agree, words mean nothing it's action that counts. I also think that Howard Mcsweeney,s choice of words is unfortunate to say the least, to say that our Union flag besmirchs the monument is insulting to all who died fighting under its banner. Let's have some action instead of constant sniping & backbiting, it's funny that you people always bring it up & then blame us, while we are waiting for the next Council meeting. Maybe Howard Mcsweeney will attend & see that we,re NOT as black as we have been painted by certain people as we don't use underhand tactics.

Anybody who says a flag besmirches a memorial or agrees with it is in my personal opinion, disgusting and lower ranking than a bottom feeder in a sewer. My god, I would not have thought even these 3 disgusting excuses for Dovorians could have sunk this low.

You never cease to charm Augusta, would you like to tell the "Battle of Britain memorial trust" that they are they wrong not to have a union flag here?

You have selective sight Howard there are flags there. You are a silly little man, little in every aspect. No wonder you have been banned from so many fb pages. I will remove myself from this forum. Just wondering who sponsored it, DTC or DDC?? Who will you brown nose after May? I make no apology for addressing you personally as a disgrace to anything that is remotely honourably connected to our flag. I am going public with your disgraceful comments and the following agreements. I wish you well. Please never insult me by speaking to me, for whatever reason. Hope you and your best buddies have a good answer for being dispicably disrespectful.

If the above post is how a prospective councillor conducts herself. Heaven help us next election.

The only FB pages I have been deleted from is Augusta and a few of her torchbearers.
Anyone that dares challenge her gets the treatment and is unable to speak up for themselves unlike on here.
Some of the racist comments on her status would not be acceptable here.

I respect you Howard.Yes if they were campaigning for the toilets to be open I would agree.Yes Howard there is not a flag by that memorial.I have laid a wreath there a couple of times. Its a beautiful memorial. If certain people get elected next May I think they will be put in their place. Its not easy being a Councillor. They will have to abide by Standing Orders.

I am many things but not racist so you are, as usual speaking rubbish. Its probably a shock to some people to get some plain talking. I never have nor ever will brown nose Btw Howard you have been banned from a number of fb pages, some I only just started posting on. Your infamy goes well before you. Prospective Cllrs have a right to reply and state their case the same as anybody else or are they expected to shut up till after they are elected, as has been the experience so far

Good comment Jan - some of the personal insults I've seen online on this subject, including those 'heightist' comments in #10, could result in people being jailed for up to 2 years for cyber-bullying under
new legislation.
Everyone is entitled to an opinion without being insulted - my own opinion being that the memorial was put up without a flagpole and that is how it should stay (though I'm not living in the DTC catchment so my views are irrelevant). The pic below comes from an article in Dover Life last year showing a recent ceremony and the original dedication, where the simplicity of the memorial surroundings stands out.

The decision was made, the flagpole is going up. Why keep bringing it up?

The racist comments were there for all to see, you chose not to delete, Facebook eventually took action. There were very many insults aimed at people. the most memorable was "old hag". You deny others the chance to present a case that differs from yours, something this forum doesn't even though you say repeatedly that you do not read this and will not post.
Incidently a pre-planning application has gone in. nothing more. nothing less.

Oh look another bending of the facts #17
Maybe you will fit in with your perception of DTC if that is how you will be :)
Pre-planning just means they are seeing the lay of the land. It is not a decision.
I must admit I did notice someone had put 2 flags in the unknown soldier, even though I have never seen that before as thought just the crosses went in.
It is not just a case of besmirching a memorial either. There are 4 nations within great Britain and many people feel strongly about those. And sadly if you are going for councillor people have opinions and they will differ from yours.
You can also see the flag on the town hall from down the high street not to mention much of the surrounding area.

Perhaps I'm missing something here; Is this thread an attempt to research the origins of flagellation?
If so flags, although appearing to be associated because of it's spelling is way off the mark!
Does the Dover Stage still exist as many contributions appear to come from the depths of a almost empty wine bottle?
P. S. This thread has sodded up my Christmas poem!
PPS. Jan as a seagull?!!!!!!!
Do nothing and nothing happens.
