Oh right! To reciprocate I must admit that I am humbled to link up with a Neologist, ( mislucidity).
You did however remind me of a Pink Floyd classic which is enjoying a revival:

Always up for a coinage, BW. Although, to be pedantic, I just glued a noun to a prefix.

Usual feely touched rubbish. (Personally I blame Lady Di).
38.2 MILLION displaced persons on the planet ALL of whom have a 'right' to apply for asylum in UK!
Who do you want to take? How many? Just the fittest and youngest who can pay the Albanians? Just the poor 'kiddies' (aaaah, they've got lovely big eyes)? Just those who happen to be pregnant?
I. Would. Not. Take. A. Single one.
End of. Life is nasty brutish and short. Always has been. Get used to it and just try to enjoy yourself as by chance you ended up where it's not so bad and stop trying to make it crap because you have some stupid existentialist guilt.

So presumably you would advocate that the UK should cease to be a signatory to the 1951 UNHCR convention? Perhaps you should make that case to a wider forum than just here? Maybe take it up with your local party?
I love your use of full stops for emphasis. Just. Saying.

We come at this from opposite ends, but I think we arrive at the same conclusion. The only difference between you, Captain, and the people arriving on inflatables is when and were you were born, right? You didn't have a say in that anymore than they did with their circumstances. I get it that you don't feel any obligation to help, but I struggle to see why people begrudge those less fortunate trying to do all they can to better their lot.

Don't 'begrudge' at all.
Simple fact human history has advanced by people looking after people a bit like themselves. See Selfish Gene etc.
Sorry but I buy my kids stuff rather than yours. I'm more likely to give to a 'local' charity than an equally worthy one elsewhere.
e.g. Daughter No 3 in Denmark last week. Said it was wonderful to be surrounded by people as tall as her.
Tall?
Didn't dare point out they were all Nordic blondes because, of course, she is of the right-on self-loathing generation and would go ballistic if I pointed out the bleeding obvious.
Nobody, but nobody would have signed the 1951 Refugee Convention if they'd known how it would turn out.
The concept of 'country' has worked fine over past couple of hundred years.
We now have fewer country v country wars than ever (though loads of civil war in sub-Saharan Africa. You want racism? The buggers hate each other!)
There's a tsunami of people who would love to have YOUR stuff which they have seen on the ubiquitous mobile 'phone and they are on the move.
Before I 'go' interesting fact.
People keep saying 'if only we could improve their economy they would not want to emigrate' .
Historically, with improving economy and conditions, for the first ten years, the new middle classes use their wealth to get the Hell out to somewhere even better!
I'd do the same. Mmmm CocaCola, Netflix, BigMac and the rule of law.
(And having arrived I'd be laughing my socks off at the idiots claiming all cultures are equal though keeping a straight face and demanding reparations!)

Got called from Dover to Gatwick once. Three 'jumbos' in from Sri Lanka full of 'refugees' fleeing Tamil civil war.
Half were Sinhalese, other half Tamil.
All happy as Larry to share plane having bribed immigration in Colombo to get on board. Supposedly in fear of each other!
All 'middle class' on the move while the poor bastards back home without money we're getting shot, blown up etc.
All with a totally reasonable claim for asylum as had 'a well founded belief etc' (see 1951 Convention).
Do give Mr Ramachuckabutty my regards next time you are in the corner shop.
The ones who didn't qualify for asylum were all given 'exceptional leave to remain', like all the Kosovans in Cliftonville, as if we'd sent them back to a 'war situation' there would be outrage and all can apply for revocation of conditions or Citizenship after five years but don't appear in statistics.

Pretty much as in my first post on the thread: No discernible skills, coming in via the back door, illegal, seeking the jobs (even if on the black market), not way of deporting them, only ever men, and we are mugs for allowing it. All nations are. Put another way: we didn't break the asylum system, these fraudsters did, and continue to do so. I feel for those in genuine need.

I see the local Chief God Botherer has dived in on the topic.
I thought Bishop Trevor was particularly useless, but it looks like Bishop Rose is giving him a good run for the money.
As Dr Heinz Kiosk used to say 'We are all guilty'.
