Jan Higgins - Agreed, but I am definitely not entertained or informed as I no longer bother to read the posts.

Opposition has spoken. Letter to Home Secretary accuses her of going for headline grabbing non solutions, rather than addressing the problem. That pretty much sums it up.

'Opposition'? Isn't that kind of deception covered under consumer protection?

You know what they say about not interrupting your enemy while they are making a mistake and all that.

Corporate virtue-signalling, tax avoidance, racism, migrant exploitation, factory farms, weed killer, and the 'wokescreen'.

Everything under control, no "invasion", they are not illegal, they wanted to be interviewed and report to border force, they are all fleeing desperate situations and brought the family with them, cos it'd be too dangerous to leave them behind......no mate, they entered the country illegally - that makes them criminals. I don't give AF what the snowflakes on here say: once they prove their case for asylum, good luck. For now, that looked fairly suspect behaviour IMO
P.s What does France no have that we do..........a black economy for work due to ID cards. It is EASY to get work here, off the cards, as posted previously you can rent an uber account or a deliveroo account for starters.

Card the vast majority so a tiny minority might be found out? That turns the presumption of innocence on its head. Totalitarian thinking's become so easy lately. Papers please, comrade!

However you frame it: The UK is a soft touch. It is possible to work off the cards here.
We have no clue whatsoever who is here, and once here entitlement to all things is pretty much a given - all the nice stuff about helping those and need etc is all well and good. The fact is: many come here and we are mugs. You have to ask: Why not France? or many of the other countries they traveled through? One reason: ££££

Another reason is English. Anyway, I wouldn't infer from what Calais politicians say about the UK that France doesn't have a black economy of her own.

I suspect the reasons are as likely to be family, friends, speak English, some form of affinity to the UK as much as the chance to work in the black economy; which will also be the reason they don't apply for asylum or refugee status in other EU countries.
Of course if you are illegal and dont either present to the authorities or get picked up then you are not entitled to anything as you dont exist as far as the authorities are concerned.
If you do present to the authorities then you get £35 on a pre-paid card per week plus your lodgings (generally a room in an HMO), also you cannot legally work, are only entitled to emergency medical treatment etc. Once your granted asylum or refugee status you are allowed to stay for a maximum of 5 years (Not sure how good the state is at checking this but hey ho).

As I keep saying: there are no shortage of ways to work illegally. Every car wash, every nail bar, every corner shop inside the M25 ... how far do they need to look, not far!
It is EASY to rent someone's NI number, or login for one of the gig economy apps.

All illegal workers are rapists? All rapists are illegal workers? Rape by an illegal worker is worse than rape by a legal worker?
Points aren't just for pencils, BW.

I posted the link WGS, without comment, to illustrate the point that Ross made about how easy it is for illegals to avoid detection in the UK.
The system in this case allowed one to be in the U.K. for 10 years without being detected until his behaviour flagged up his presence. His misdemeanours, although serious, were in no way intended to be the objective of posting the link.
I hope that this clarifies your misunderstanding of my post.

Indeed, BW. Although, to be pedantic, it was less 'my misunderstanding' and more your mislucidity wot did it.
