I had an email from Roger Walton this afternoon in reply to the one I sent him three weeks ago regarding the bins. He was very reasonable, said he'd been to look himself, understood my concerns and offered me the alternatives of takinng away the recycling bin and leaving the grey one, or takning both of them and giving me the blue box and purple bags instead. I said I'd prefer it if they took both of them.
So that's gone some way to restoring my faith in the Council. They do listen if you make enough fuss.

I emailed him just before you went to see him. I'm sure yours will be gone eventually. he said he was keen to work with individual residents to reach a solution.

Does this mean the whole of our road is going to be reassessed Colin, or are you a 'special case' because of your representations. Hoping for the former.
Cheers,

Since watching the film 2001 when I was very young I have developed a morbid fear of rectangular black objects such as wheelie bins. It puts me into a state of panic and is rather debilitating.
I have a normal sized front garden and have been told that I have to have wheelie bins or nothing - ie. no purple sacks.
Do other forumites consider my condition grounds for legitimate refusal of the bins?

Phil, I guess the whole road will be, or probably has been reassessed, and in due course everyone will be asked. PhillipP get in touch with Roger Walton, from the reply I got he seems to be a reasonable person, I'm sure he will listen to your concerns.

Roger Walton is indeed a reasonable guy, but there is simply no going back to the old system of waste collection; it's one thing or the other and the choices are simple: two wheelie bins and a food bin, or a black box and 2 purple bags per week (and the food bin).
If you don't want either, you will have to dispose of your own waste properly - ie at the Whitfield waste site if you live in Dover.
There is a back-log that is slowly being shortened - sorry your's is taking too long Howard, would you like me to have a word and ask them to take away your wheelie bins and bring a black box and purple bags ?
Roger

As predicted now you have all settled in with your Wheelie bins....not my words but the Council's you will now be ready for the next bit.As I said last year if we are on the same contract as Shepway here comes your green waste charges.
Oh yes at a bargain £40 a year you can have your green waste taken away(sic) you will get a certificate to put in your green sack no certificate no takey away and don't lose your wheelie bins that will cost you £90 the good news you have until April to save up.
If you knew what I know,we would both be in trouble!
Are you saying we are going to be charged if someone nicks our bins or they blow away? And charged to have our green waste removed?

the alternative to using the council tip if you don't want the new bins is to use the western heights.
saw this earlier in the morning.

Maybe I should 'borrow' a pair of the 9 wheelie bins that are on the Albert Road pavement in case mine go missing. I have no intention of paying £90 when I can buy one elsewhere a lot cheaper than that should mine go missing.
That rubbish above looks awful.

The whole thing about waste collection and recycling is, if you pardon the pun, a mess.
