this all reminds me of when homer simpson gets abducted by aliens.
once upon the spacecraft he drops his trousers and bends over and an alien in a posh voice says "actually we have moved on from anal probes"

So Melissa you are convinced that out of the trillions of stars and solar systems out there, ours is the only planet to support life?

Melissa, you might like to know that the creator of Star Trek, Gene Roddenberry, although convinced there was life 'out there[, did not believe that aliens were responsible for mankind's development. To quote him, "aliens did not build the pyramids, men did because they are clever that way".
Extraterrestrial life is simply a statistical probability and is different to believing in UFO's. Thought for the day; anyone intelligent enough to travel light years to get here would surely be bright enough to disguise their craft as airplanes.

In what way evidence Melissa?
The universe is so vast we may never meet alien life but that does not mean it does not exist. Only a small part of our own relatively small galaxy has been explored by radio telescopes looking for radio waves as well so an absense of such contact is not an indication either. Anyway, who is to say we would pick up radio waves from an alien species, they may be way ahead of us technically and we just might not be advanced enough to detect it.
The sheer size of the universe, the number of stars and galaxies all makes it very unlikely that we are unique.
Do not mix up UFO stuff with the existence of alien life or not - the jury is out on that and no-one here is necessarily saying that we have been visited.
I believe the mistake we make is in thinking we would be able to recognise an alien when we see one , it is an amazingly huge universe and many scientists now believe there could be many universes , even goverments have plans in place for an alien invasion .

You are right there Mark.
With the internet now im not sure goverments could cover it up now , if it happens it would be interseting to see how the world copes .

yes we live in a different world where revolutions are covered by mobile phone cameras and word gets around very easily on the interweb.
would be impossible to cover up.

Peter G-reference your point about time travel never becoming possible because, you say, that we would have already met time travellers from the future. That is not necessarily so because we would have to be so far advanced in human development and knowledge in this distant future to have such technology- such would be our level of serenity(if we survive) that we would know better than to interfere with the past by making an overt or even detectable appearance-which would undoubtedly alter the future and perhaps negate our own existence.
Never give up...

Unless such an appearance were already to be predestined. It depends upon whether you consider time to be a linear concept or not. The other possibility is that it is not technology which will enable us to travel through time but mind-expanding techniques such as astral travel. There is significant evidence that many eastern mystics can practise astral travel through three dimensions, so why not the fourth? Of course astral travellers can only observe, not influence, so your objection falls down.

I have often wondered how people can reconcile not believing in anything without "clear proof" can also believe in a god and a trinity involving a 'holy ghost'. These people often believe in political ideologies despite "clear proof" from history and the latest news that most do not actually work in real life.
But back to the thread and the possibility that the unexplained could be the result of dimensional rather than extraterrestrial visitations. Modern quantum mec hanics postulates at least eleven dimensions.
Multiple Dimensions
For years, Einstein hoped to unite the contemporary ideas of relativity and quantum mechanics. Yet, he could not unite these theories because he limited his parameters for a unifying equation to the four dimensions that humans consciously experience. The first physicists to truly pursue the theory of additional dimensions were Kaluza and Klein. They noticed that if a fifth dimension were to exist in the universe, there would be fields of angles between all of the existing dimensions. By applying this to Einstein's geometric model of gravity, Kaluza and Klein noticed that gravity, the force that relativity is concerned with, and electromagnetism, one of the forces that quantum mechanics deals with, showed similar properties. Therefore, by adding a fifth dimension to the universe, the same equations that apply to electromagnetism could also apply to gravity. It was later shown that not only is one additional dimension required for this link to be solidified, but six more dimensions. Even further down the road, it was discovered that the formulas used to determine this number (which are actually mathematical methods of approximation, since the actual formulas are unknown) we slightly off, resulting in yet another necessary dimension. Therefore, our three physical dimensions plus one time dimension plus seven additional dimensions results in there being eleven dimensions!
