I find it weird that in this day and age some people do not actually believe that there are aliens.
It is inconceivable that in the vast universe we are alone.
To think the human race are alone in this universe is the definition of supreme arrogance.
Hurrah! Agreed! I suspect people are stuck in the Little Green Man mode!

Barry, we all know that there are no aliens. Have you ever seen one?

nobody knows for certain if there is life on other planets, conversely nobody can know for certain that there isn't.
you and most of the world believe in the existence of god, nobody alive can prove it either way.
it is better just to respect what other people believe.

I agree with Barry it really is arrogant to think we are alone.
That said, if they had the ability to get here, I'm not sure they would invade, what would they get out of it?

There is absolutely no comparison between God and aliens.
Aliens are not a religion, not a faith, and are not creators; but I strongly disagree with defining other people as arrogant for not believing in aliens.
That just goes over the top.
You are free to believe in aliens, I don't - and never will - believe in them, however this does not make me arrogant.
May-be on this not we could agree, that one cannot bully people into believing in aliens by calling them arrogant.

Whether it is arrogant or not, I suppose, depends on the degree of conviction and the manner in which that conviction is expressed. Once upon a time men believed that the sun went around the earth. Now we know different, but could that geocentric view of the universe reasonably be called arrogant? That view was based on what men could see for themselves; Alex's view is also based on what he can see for himself, he has apparently not read any scientific tracts on the possibility of extra-terrestrial life.
Either that or he is pulling all our legs in a more sophisticated manner than usual.
And those of us who are widely read on religious matters know very well that God Is An Englishman.

Considering the nearest planet that scientists think could support life is 30,000 light years away..thats one hell of a journey to make to just abduct some redneck from a field in Kansas.
If they are so intelligent how come they haven't parked up on the White House lawn for a chat and a cuppa with the President.

But in terms of the huge scale of things, 30,000 light years is like the next village. The nearest earth-like planet is Gliese 581g which is a tad over 20 light years away, in cosmic terms right next door.

As we have no proof there is or is not a god, how do we know who was/is the creator? My mind is open to proof of any god or aliens unlike some who have closed their mind.

If there is intelligent life out there how do we
a) know they are not here amongst us
b) that they have not visited us at various times during our development as a species
c) that they are not about to demolish the planet to make way for a pan galactic super highway
After all any sufficiently advanced technology appears to be magic

If it's true that our species is alone in the universe, then I'd have to say the universe aimed rather low and settled for very little.

Mel - what is your reasoning for saying that. Considering that there are billions of stars in our own galaxy and this is one relatively small galaxy among billions of them.... The law of probability suggests that there must be other planets like earth, probably millions of them.
They may or may not be green, they probably have not visited this earth, they may not even be men (or women come to that) but there is most certainly in this vast universe other intelligent life.
