all very well lew,but all roundabouts and 1 lane should be freed up for free movement of local traffic.all truks should be removed from the a20 and put into stack, being released in small numbers as ferrys arrive.

I'm presuming they were checking that the lorries coming down Jubilee Way had tickets for a specific ferry, those without being sent up the A20 and M20. There were no lorries heading along the A20 into the docks at that time, oddly enough.

I assume the police are controlling the various turnings and roundabouts.........Sorry I forgot they used their budget up controlling those few demonstrators over the weekend.

Meeting took place at the House of Commons late this afternoon.
All agencies, local authorities, DHB , ferry companies & Eurotunnel together with freight industry & MP's .
The debate dealt with logjams into Dover & lorry parks to alleviate Operation Stack. Issues to addressed separately .
First priority to resolve operational management of traffic on a daily basis .
That will be addressed at the Kent Resilience Forum on Feb 18th.
It was agreed that the matter was a national issue , not a Kent one alone & should be treated as such.
That is my short summary of feel of the meeting & notes of the session will follow.

Thank you Paul for the update, we can but hope that our local traffic problems will be sorted sooner rather than later.

All sorts of talk about lorry parks but drivers from the poorer companies of Europe won't have the dosh to pay for them.

Spot on Howard, if anybody thinks this will work as a business they are crazy, you cannot order traffic from a public road into a holding area and charge them for the privilege!

I can't see any short term solution Martin despite the utterings from politicians.
The answer might be on the spot fines(practiced in much of Europe) and if not paid immediately impounding the vehicle if they are blocking roundabouts or access roads. A logistical nightmare of course but thinking ahead the long game would mean that Eastern European hauliers would be subject to the same costs as our own therefore making it more of a level playing field.

Going by the disgusting litter left from Operation Stack added to all the breaking of traffic laws, on the spot fines would make the improved policing self financing.

there is a way round it.
1/ a lorry park with customs clearance, check in booths.and a holding park for booked lorrys.
2/ rest rooms etc plus a café for food and drink.
3/send prebooked lorries down when ferry is half an hour of port.
simples.

Jan, the 18th Feb meeting is to address the point you make.
Brian all the matters you indicated are part of ongoing discussions.
The biggest problem to come is immigration exit checks from April 1st. This will slowdown through put at the port & Eurotunnel. It can't be done at a check in offsite.
Litter with human waste on A20 & A2 were a further matter of concern. The cost of closing a lane for safely reasons to allow the process to be undertaken & scheduling of closures are the obstacles to more regular clearances. The Highways Agency have to address this.
Off now

All the main rds leading into Dover are in a mess why they never clear up behind work done like cut backs I will never know,it is the best time to do it .I have asked so many times at K.C.C meetings to do this ,and have even agreed that is the best time to do a clean up behind work done. But it never happens. This is why I am packing up in May no point being a cllr even alow one like myself if no one takes any notice of what you tell them.

It costs £5k per entrance into Dover to shut a lane so the clear ups can take place. These lane closures have to be processed via the Highways Agency & need advance notice. Dover tax payers should not be liable for that burden. Now lorry drivers are being charged a levy to enter the UK , this income should be used for this type of activity as well as funding staffing to man roundabouts into Dover & build out the lorry parks. These points were all raised at the House of Commons session on Monday & will be followed up at the Kent Resilience Forum on 18th. This Forum deals with all emergencies that occur throughout the County & is led by the Chief Constable.

The plans to change the A20 roundabouts to traffic lights have been put back.
Difficult to believe that they were going to start Easter week as it was
