was listenig to radio earlier ans sandwich traders werent pleased and understandably so. It appears you cant leave the course once there to go into town and grab something to eat, or shop.
So not only is the town suffering all the traffic issues but they are not getting any of the fringe benefits.. goo dplanning,
someone tell me how its benefiting the district again?!

Wasn't there a Jamie Oliver story a while back headlined...
"Portly parents pelt pining progeny with pork products."...or similar?
Could the towns-people not package foodstuffs, perhaps between slices of bread, and 'vend' them at the perimeter?
What's the name of the town again?
"Kentish comestible carriers contest centralised catering controls!"
"Smorgasbord my foot!"

Ignorance is bliss, bliss is happiness, I am happy...to draw your attention to the possible connectivity in the foregoing.

i posted that information a couple of months back jenni, it seems that the royal and ancient golf club and royal st georges have colluded here to make sure that all revenue stays in house.
people tell me that at some racecourses now they search peoples bgs on entering to make sure they have not brought their own food and drink.
the prices at the golf are scandalous.

Most of the caterers inside the course are from Scotland and no you cannot slap a few sarnies together and flog em outside, rules, regulations, laws, insurance, paperwork, licences hygiene, toilet facilities, police and tour bouncer's saying "move along please"

I bet the traders from Sandwich and local area never even got the chance to tender for a pitch inside the perimeter.

It is so outrageous. Where is the incentive to be a bit creative?

Prices are Cod or Haddock & Chips £7.50, Cheesy Chips £4.00 and a portion of chips £2.80. Nowhere near as expensive as Wimbledon, where I came across the price for a bowl of strawberries and cream with a glass of champagne for only £85!
Enjoying the Open so far I've bumped into Nigel Collor as well as a few old friends.
I wish I could have been there! Enjoy!

Jamie, my grandson went to see some friends in Sandwich this morning and said the town was absolutely packed so lets hope some traders have benefited.

That's good to hear, Jan. It sounded as if all the trade was going on inside the golf course but apparently not.

fish and chips on the ferries is about the same i seem to remember.

What price are fish n chips in Dover cos over here the cheapest but nicest is £3.95 for small cod and £1.40 for normal portion of hand cut potato chips.
Out of 10 chippies visited so far only 2 sell proper chips the rest are cooked from frozen . I refuse to purchase frozen chips from a chippy.

Funny enough we had some at work on Thursday lunchtime. I paid £9 for two medium fish and chips and two extra potions of chips for the drivers and we were unable to eat all our chips.

£5.50 for cod and chips in Whitstable this week, enough for two and real cod.
We had some in Edinburgh recently and my daughter asked what the fish was - "Fish" was the answer. A local fishmonger was telling a customer in front of me recently that a lot of chippies now use farmed fish from Vietnam that is a bit dodgy.

Traditionally fish and chips in Scotland has always been haddock.
